Quiet mode physically closes two of the 4 muffler (paths) directing the complete flow through the more dampening mufflers.
So whatever ESE does inside (I cannot check anymore), outside it is way more quiet.
Strange enough: at low RPM/idle it sounds more V8 than in other modes.
I can tell as I have my car in a large underground garage and drive out with top down often in summer, depending on the time in quiet or in normal.
Underground garages are addictive, track mode and throttled howl but then the mellow sounds of butterfly v8 ….

I do agree the drop top does sound different with and without.

Zig,

There is a video in the Meh thread about how the valves work in Quiet mode.

Thx but was wondering in relation to electronic noise / feedback control.

Forscan should make this work with MacBooks . . . . 😡

:curse:
You can install Windows for free on a separate partition on your MAC with bootcamp IF you have an older MAC. It's no longer supported though so I can't do it on my new one. Alternatively, a sub $200 windows tablet would get it done as well.

Wouldn’t that mean the modified exhaust (real noise) would either conflict or be evident with each modification? Since it doesn’t change it would stick out like a sore thumb.

how does quiet mode work?
I have not measured or tried to "quantify" what exactly is going on with ESE, nor even tried disabling it (yet). I would guess it changes with the modes... it may reduce or shut off completely or give a completely different "complimentary tone" to enhance the quiet mode.

As far as modified exhaust, not sure that it would conflict unless you try with ESE enabled or disabled to tell the difference. Though a modified exhaust is going to be evident over stock... (of course!).

I am far from an expert on this... there is plenty of info out there... Some people seem offended that it is on their Mustang, but it is a very common feature on many cars of all types and brands. I am not bothered by it so I may one day try it disabled to better understand it... or I may "have to" if installing a stereo system.

Does your car sound good with the windows rolled down? If so, what does it matter if Ford adjusts the sound you hear inside the vehicle (unless you hate the way it sounds)? These cars sound great, in my opinion, so I don't think it's any type of shame to have noise cancelling or amplification inside the cabin.

If there is active sound adjustment in the GT I don’t notice it. I pull in the garage and open the car door while it’s running and hear a nice rumble coming out the back while trying to hear any difference. I know …not very scientific…lol.

I’m still not sure if the programming code is just an artifact leftover from where it’s used in the Ecoboost, or if it is some type of active noise cancelling to suppress any type of drone.

Some here with a GT have disabled it with Forscan and say there’s a difference. So they would know best I guess.

Also for me, I’ll just enjoy the sound and not overthink it, because I’m too good at overthinking stuff.

Because it is more unnecessary noise in the cabin, when maybe I want to listen to two British guys discussing the finer points of Martel "The Hammer's" defeat of the Umayyad Caliphate at the Battle of Tours in 732, halting the muslim advance into Europe, and how it lead to the muslim empire's inevitable defeat in Western Europe over time in a period known as Reconquista. Sometimes they do not speak as loudly or clearly, and it is difficult to hear in a noisy car.

Regardless of any active sound enhancements…let’s take that out of the equation for a moment….

For an immediate fix, when listening to your podcasts, move your balance fader 100% to the front. I know you solved your issue by moving it forward more, but for just voices, you’ll notice a much bigger improvement by pushing the fader all the way to the front.

Allthough already posted in this thread:

1) The added sounds from the electronic sound enhancement interfere with the car stereo. If you are into car hifi and have upgraded the system, it distorts music/impairs in particular the subwoofer

2) It is not real engine or exhaust sound picked up by a microfone and played through the speakers (something I could accept if volume could be set individually).
Instead, it seems to be this artificial noise similar to the Ecoboost sounds as you can hear in this video (best listened to with earphones to get an idea how much of the "rumble" comes from this system):

Even if it would sound absolutely great and not deteriorate music, I personally would turn it off because I want the real thing, however loud or silent it is.
And yes, I would be ashamed if my friends say "Wow, I love the sound of a true V8" and I had to say "Sorry, some of it comes from the speakers".

And once again my friends:
Please do not confuse Active Noise Cancellation with the Electronic Sound Enhancement, those are two completely different things.
There is nothing embarrassing about ANC, it's a comfort feature.
The only connection is that both systems communicate to make sure ANC doesn't try to cancel out the sounds which ESE is purposely adding.

Maybe they figured out after they installed the ANC , that it canceled the noise everyone likes too. The V8 sound. So in turn the easiest way to solve that problem , was to put the noise back in artificially with ESE.

It really makes the head spin when thinking about this , you're welcome ! 🤣

Anc is akin to ese in the same way traction control is related to stability control.
