Just wanted to check in with those that have installed the DIY-van liner fix. How is it holding up? Does it seem like it will last many years even when driving in rain and possibly even snow (gasp). I just have tape on the openings for now which does a decent job but I haven't really driven in and sort of rain (yet). I do check the tape every now and then and have had to fix it a few times as it comes a little loose.

I do plan on ordering the kit and installing sometime late summer or early fall but just wanted to make sure everyone is happy with it overall. I don't want to have to every worry about those stupid openings after the repair is made, Just a set it and forget it approach:)

My kit shipped yesterday! now that it is on the way, what do you guys recommend for sealing off the contact rust that has formed in the openings already? I'm at 7000 miles uncovered but recently had the car in for rattles inside, where they found the side skirt and underbody tray improperly installed at FRAP. they removed the underbody shield and removed all of the rocks under the car, including the holes. I taped it off as I had the kit on order, now just need to permanently seal the exposed body metal. Sorry to drag this out, what can i use lol

@Carter1776 use a rust neutralizer then paint. What you have is probably surface rust and not far advanced. Follow the directions on the neutralizer and get one with good reviews as their are several available.

Do you have one you'd recommend as a starting point?

I haven't used one in years but I'm sure that they are even better today. Just check the reviews.

You could go to a local auto body paint supply place, if you have one in your area and ask their opinion.
You could also check out Eastwood‘s website.

It’s hard to know how long the kit will hold up in harsh conditions; only time will tell. Thus far, the kit has been exceptionally good for my car. I can also say that when JB weld is installed on a non-moving or non-pressurized part, it tends to hold up for many years without a problem. Since JB weld is the adhesive used in the DIYVan kit, I expect it to hold for the life of the fender liners.

DIYvan.com - for the kit and the videos. IMO failure to seal these holes will lead to serious component and frame damage especially the front K frame and components. This is a beyond stupid mistake by Ford and at the moment its up to us to fix it. Easily and permanently done with Hein's kit ..... DIY.van.com. Tape will only stay on so long. $100 and 30 minutes SOLVES this issue. If you value your mustang don't band-aid this issue. I do not know Hein (other than conversations) and have no financial interest in his company DIYvan.com.

@Sf22giants .... agreed. But being ocd about 4 weeks after the installation - plenty of time for the JB weld to cure - I opened a tube of 3M black silicone marine sealant and applied it liberally and smoothly around the perimeter of the edges of the covers about 3/4 of an inch past the edges to prevent any water getting through the felt-like lined under the cover. Last time I checked both cover pieces were rock solid. I expect that the cover are stronger than the original cover itself. lol.

Just wondering if anyone has any special tips or pointers I should pay attention to when installing the DIY kit? Mine is arriving towards the end of this week and I hope to get it installed shortly thereafter. Looking forward to it replacing the tape I've been rocking for almost 5 months now, lol.

THANKS FOR ASKING. IT REMINDED ME TO CHECK TO SEE IF THE DIYVAN PATCHES I INSTALLED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO ARE STILL THERE (CHECKING THE WHEEL WELLS IS NOT SOMETHING I REGULARLY DO). THEY ARE STILL THERE AND I JUST FOLLOWED THE ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS USING THE ADHESIVE THAT CAME WITH THEM. GREAT PRODUCT.
