Front inner wheel well issues

But being ocd about 4 weeks after the installation - plenty of time for the JB weld to cure - I opened a tube of 3M black silicone marine sealant and applied it liberally and smoothly around the perimeter of the edges of the covers about 3/4 of an inch past the edges to prevent any water getting through the felt-like lined under the cover. Last time I checked both cover pieces were rock solid. I expect that the cover are stronger than the original cover itself. lol.

Just wondering if anyone has any special tips or pointers I should pay attention to when installing the DIY kit? Mine is arriving towards the end of this week and I hope to get it installed shortly thereafter. Looking forward to it replacing the tape I've been rocking for almost 5 months now, lol.

THANKS FOR ASKING. IT REMINDED ME TO CHECK TO SEE IF THE DIYVAN PATCHES I INSTALLED SEVERAL MONTHS AGO ARE STILL THERE (CHECKING THE WHEEL WELLS IS NOT SOMETHING I REGULARLY DO). THEY ARE STILL THERE AND I JUST FOLLOWED THE ONLINE INSTRUCTIONS USING THE ADHESIVE THAT CAME WITH THEM. GREAT PRODUCT.

Hi all checked my mustang tonight and I'm going to try Acoustic Insulation. I posted pictures;
It has an adhesive on it, but I'm going to still use JB weld around the perimeter of it. The insulation is very pliable and tough. the piece I'm using is; 5x7 and I can mold it to the hole. I'll be getting the JB Tomorrow and will put it on and I'll let it cure until the weekend. I can also turn the tire to give me more room. I'll post pics after it is finished.
What would you all suggest to use to clean the wheel with prior to sticking it on?

I have the kit but haven't had the time to install it yet. When I changed my oil for the first time 2 months ago, the belly pan had very few pebbles in it. I suspect the frame will be different. So how do you guys suck the rocks out of the frame? Vacuum with a skinny attachment?

All, I have posted this in some other threads regarding the 2024 mustang front inner wheel well openings. For those of you who are not aware, there is an opening directly behind each front wheel where stones, dirt, sand get tossed into. Once it goes in, there is no way for it to get out unless you clean it out. The stones will work their way between the outer plastic rocker molding and the pinch weld where they etch their way through the paint. The opening also exposes the K member as well as the body sheet metal. So as you drive your car, you are damaging a place that under these circumstances becomes VERY vulnerable to rust and corrosion. I have never seen such a poorly designed inner fender well? Ford as well as the dealers need to hear about this so hopefully they can get a new design for this half of the wheel well.

Here is a video put up on youtube. If you have seen it great, but if you have not and are not aware of this, please watch this or go look at your wheel well, you will see what I'm talking about. It is much easier to see on a lift, but I discovered this the first night just laying down looking under the car.

Either this winter or this spring I plan on making something to cover this. I'm curious to hear others' thoughts on this.

Here was the earlier post of my $6.00 $10.00 wheel well fix in case anyone is interested. I bought the 12" x 12" x 1/8" sheet for under $10 on Amazon.

Since that post I have upgraded to 1/8" rubber that I feel will work better. I have not had any issues with the 1/16" in the 6,200 miles I've put on the Mustang since January but I prefer the thickness of the 1/8". And it's an easy replacement having used the push pins. If you use the link above, I also have a template (to scale) that you can download to cut the rubber sheets.

Lots of great alternative fixes. I had dealership tape them up at pickup so I need to replace the tape with a more permanent solution. On inspecting the tape I noticed it was oily and wondering if anyone else have experienced this in the wheel well area. I’m leaning towards the DIY fix as it looks good and seems to last.

@Carter1776 use a rust neutralizer then paint. What you have is probably surface rust and not far advanced. Follow the directions on the neutralizer and get one with good reviews as their are several available.

Just a side note for those living in the rust belt as I have a history with.....I recommend addressing "surface rust" first. That's because surface rust is evidence that moisture already has access to the metal in those spots. Folks in the rust belt or along coastal areas understand how surface rust isn't that for long in those environments.
