Dealer attempted to fix some paint defects on the hood of our new S650 but now there appears to be streaks in the clear coat. What caused this?

I did my best to capture in on camera. It's like this across the entire hood and it's very easy to see in person. This is the first wash after we got it back from them. These streaks don't show on any other panel AT ALL. Any professionals in here know what likely caused this or what it's the result of?

Looks like some buffer streaks... IDK if I would take it to them again. I would go to a body or detail shop and see what they say before returning to the dealer. It may just be that they didn't do a fine polish after a "cut". Do you know exactly what they did to fix it?

going back to this particular dealer is......questionable. maybe take to them, have them acknowledge issue, at try to correct one more time. if that fails, let them know your dissatisfaction and that you are taking it to a professional detailer. not sure if insurance could pick up the costs?

Hand wash? My thoughts assume you hand washed it.

I cannot believe the dealer had the nerve to give it to like this. They were supposed to provide paint corrections not more defects. Nobody on here will be able to tell you with certainty if this can be buffed out because there is no way to tell how much clear coat the dealer removed during their hack job. To correct this you must have enough clear coat to correct without burning through to the base coat. If that happens there is no correction only repaint.

Having said the above more than likely there is enough clear coat left to work with. If this is in fact scratches in the clear they can be buffed out and polished as long as they're superficial.

I would be very hesitant to let whoever did this have at it again. I would show the dealer and demand someone competent correct this. Bottom line - Internet diagnosis can only be of so much help.

By the way there is no excuse for this type of work. Very unprofessional.

In 47 years in the dealership business, I've had ONE guy work for us as a detailer that was worthy of the name. Our makready dept now consists of a contract company that washes cars for the lot and for delivery and thats it. I have customers ask about detailing or paint correction, and appreciate that they come to me about it, but I refer then to a place in our town that I know will properly "detail" a car.
All the local dealerships that I am aware of are like this, and I suppose the OP's dealer is as well. Aside from enthusiasts, you'd be stunned to know what the average person thinks a detail is. And if you saw the condition of 95% of the cars that we take in each day, you'd understand.
Do you think that the people who own these two cars care about ANYTHING? Only Jesus Christ alone can imagine what their houses must look like!
