hello everyone,
i know this has been an issue for some people's mustangs and it has been a headache for me as well for the past month or two, and my local ford dealership has only just came up with a fix. this fix isn't a one size fits all fix, but it is something that you should bring up to your local mechanic/dealership when trying to troubleshoot this issue.
the pt malfunction from what i've seen on this thread, as well as online in other forums can pop up for a lot of reasons and the most common cause, which is also the smallest headache, is checking the battery charge, which for me wasn't the case despite having a low battery on the weekend before first servicing it a month ago. something that happened to me while this happened was that my throttle position sensors D and E (iirc) were causing the pt malfunction as well, pretty much whenever i would go flat out on a highway entrance or something the pt malfunction would happen, which wasn't actually an issue but was also part of the cause
the final thing, which solved my issue, was the fact that there were broken wires due to incorrect installment from factory or from a previous service from what my dealer has told me. some wires behind the clutch pedal were broken and was assumed to be the issue by my dealer, and it has been about a month now and the pt malfunction has not popped up, compared to when it would pop up everyday even with the throttle position sensors fixed. i'm not sure how this problem did not pop up with the previous owner (i bought the car used at 3k miles, and the issue popped up at 7-8k miles, about 6 months later owning the car) but i assumed me pressing down on the clutch pedal chewed up the wires and broke it.
again, this was my fix and if anyone else has these issues i think your mechanic/dealership should look into these problems unless whatever they see on their side is something else, and im positive that other people that have had/are having issues with this pt malfunction could have a different problem since it seems like it pops up for anything.
