Can the S650 10R80 be tuned to skip more gears?

I totally get that! But if, say, you floor it at a traffic light and then let off the gas, and the car keeps revving like crazy, even a big guy would start to feel embarrassed…

watching this thread to see.. as i first drove the Mustang (mine auto) i thought it would rip ass... i had a bmw x3m and the Mustang always feels tamed low down in comparison.. than someone told me to put on sport or manual and let engine have little more revs.. The car feels more alive now, so i end up using a lot the paddles when i can. for daily use or in city the auto probably is a good choice but not that i had another, because the manual doesnt come here. anyway, i thing 10 are a little too much.. i much pefer the 8hp gearbox.

Not sure what you guys mean by this, double tapping the paddles will drop two gears, no? What do you mean by shift twice rather than shifting gears - what's the difference?

If you click just a bit too slow then it will literally shift before you get the second click in. It’s not nearly as fast as a dual clutch, but it’s still pretty darn quick.

I'm doing a little test on the current tank of gas. I'm using sport mode only to see if there's much/any difference in fuel use.
But I do like the different shift protocol though, downshifts especially, except for hanging on to a gear too long occasionally.

I drive 2024 6MT, but I cannot understand Ford putting a 10-speed auto in these cars! These are not a semi for heaven's sake that need to have more gears to match up torque curves over wide range of road use. Just doesn't fit the character of a performance car IMHO. I know those of you that like autos have no choice, but I believe Ford did a disservice to those owners with this transmission.

I drove manual for decades, and if automatics were like the 10R80 in the 1960s, I would never have bothered to drive a stick. The harder you drive the 10R80, the better it is. In the twisties, especially quick uphill or downhill turns, it is great not having to remove a hand from the wheel. Or even reposition my hands. My hands stay put, and I can, almost instantly, change gears in either direction. I suppose it depends on how you prefer driving. Before I enter turns doing more than twice the posted speed, I prefer two hands on the wheel. You never know when there is another damn cow just beyond the apex. Glenn

I don’t understand what you’re saying the second quick click before a gear shift is supposed to do?
