Yeah, mostly agree. A power upgrade will be interesting after a downgrade. This is uncharted times.
Well... the 1993 mustang gt got a downgrade in horsepower before 1994. Went from 225 in 1992 to 205 in 1993, then 215 in 1994. I vaguely recall it being emissions related. Either way, i would guess the 205 in 93 was so the new model in 94 had a 'bump', even though it arguably went down. Doesn't leave a good feeling for me, but fingers crossed.

Didn't know that about 93. I got my first car that year though. I am going to the grave with that make/model secret.

For some reason I had it in my mind that Ford de-rated the 302 right before the 4.6 was released. My assumption was that they did it because the 4.6 was a junky engine that wasn't as good as the 302. So Ford wanted to be able to say that the 4.6 was a power increase when really it wasn't.

1993 when they lowered the horsepower rating was 3 years before the 4.6 in the mustang (1996), if they did it that far ahead of time, then they were sure planning way ahead. The 4.6 itself was already out in 1994 in other vehicles, so i suppose maybe they were.

I looked it up and the 4.6 in 1996 was rated at 215 HP.

It wasn’t emissions related ford said they changed there engine hp rating system to be more accurate. I actually read a book on it, it was very Fubar lol. Word at the time was they where trying to help out with insurance cost and also the 93 was seriously underrated at 235hp lol

On April 24 ----is that the date the car can be ordered, can be seen at dealers, or just more leaks?

Mustang has just celebrated 58 years this past April 17th.........so it'll be 59 years on April 17th 2023.

The '99MY was the 35th Anniversary
The '04MY was the 40th Anniversary
The '09MY was the 45th Anniversary
The '15MY was the 50th Anniversary

Ford pick n choose as to when to celebrate the anniversary year, so it wouldn't surprise me if they use the '24MY in 2023 to celebrate the 60th.
Plus part way through the 89 model year they threw a little 25th anniversary badge on the passenger side dash. All anniversary ones prior to 2015 were based on 1964 being the first year. They didn't change it until 2015 because they wanted the 50th to coincide with the new design. Plus the 64 1/2 models apparently all show up as 65's when you run the VIN??? That irked me because I was getting back into a Mustang after 7 years away and expected the 2014 to be the 50th anniversary. Oh well, I'm done worrying about anniversary models and am focused on track capability. Oh wait, the 60th is coming up :)

Well, we know this is no longer the debut date as that is September 14th this year........but I still think April 17th 2023 is when it might go on sale and order banks open :)

I believe I've read the same about the way they changed measuring it. Coupled with perhaps a small change as well. Also I think it was the 93 cobra rated at 235 or 245 hp...but I've read owners claim it dyno'd stock where the flywheel hp might have been closer to 265-270.

I just remember the 94, 95 didn't advance the power at all. And the car may have been heavier. The 96-98 were weak with the 4.6 and the 99 cobra specifically was a fiasco with the underperformed vs claimed hp. Meanwhile the GM offerings were 260-275 hp in 1994 and by late 90s early 2000s were well into the 315-325 range. It was embarrassing for a stretch there. I remember the magazines doing everything they could to help the mustang in H2H drag tests like icing the block etc. The camaro would hit low to mid 13s with the Mustabg a full second behind still. Clinging to Saleen as the only vehicle that could compete stock. The 2003 terminator and re emergence of 5.0 finally turned the tables.
