Hands on steering wheel warning

I was recently driving with a friend and got hit over and over and over again with this warning accompanied with annoying beeping. At some point it was all red and blinking. My hands were never off the wheel.
However, the warning never showed up when I was driving solo and my hands were in fact off the wheel.

Is that system really that bad? Is it possible to disable it with forscan? I really don't need to be lectured by my car about what I can or cannot do.

It has nothing to do with hands on steering wheel pressure. It has to do with movement.

You can't disable just the warning if you have the driving assist features enabled. You have to jog the wheel a few degrees. Bugs me too. 🫩

I believe it has to do with weight on the steering wheel not movement. You can't lightly touch the wheel or hold it from the bottom.

Disable every driving assist. But I read elsewhere that you can't do that in European countries?

We have discussed this before and yes, it is really annoying. I get warnings on my screen a lot. I hold the wheel by the bottom. What worries me is a concern that the warnings are being logged and/or shared with Ford and my insurance provider.

You can toggle it in the menus unless you're not in the US and non-US cars are different. I think it's somewhere in Features from the home screen.

It depends on which safety nanny your referring to. The hands on wheel comes on when using the auto drive lane centering option. There is also a red screen popup that I think can be turned off called collision avoidance warning indicators. Turn off all the assist features. I think for non US it can be addressed in Forscan.

Starship is correct! I can easily remember the advent of seatbelt chimes, the idiotic, motorized cross-chest belts, and seatbelt latch switches that never worked from day one! Where it all started... I can just hear the bean counters... "If we replace the oil gauge and ammeter, we can save at least $...!" Now, we've gotten to the point that advertisements popup on the center dash selling us on all sorts of crap none of us want or need! Naysayers notwithstanding, the long arm of the admen are coming for all of us! Next thing you know, you'll get a warning about your bladder being full, when what they really want you to do is buy a soda at triple the price from 7-11 or whatever! Lord, willing it ever stop?!

drives me nuts too. and it is very inconstant. almost wish there was a sensor in the thumb pad that would record pressure and disable the warning.

When I use adaptive cruise and lane centering on an open highway, I often drive one handed at the bottom of the wheel. Error pops up frequently. When I first got the car I experimented gripping the wheel all over (squeeze and release), putting weight on it, etc.

I'm a photographer and shoot handheld with some pretty large lenses. I am able to hold extremely still. It was then that I realized jogging the wheel is what the car is looking for. I usually drive with the steering set to normal I have not tested with other steering mode settings. Not sure if this would have any effect. If I'm well within the lines and the system is not alerting with an orange correction I don't think I should be alerted, but in my experience it does so anyway until steering input is detected.

Yes, this pops up; I just basically ignore it. It seems to happen more in the DH than the Raptor. Have not disabled the nanies

A lot of user say you can turn it off in the settings. no you cannot. there is another system that uses the overhead camera to check if you are getting tired and paying attention and warns you if this is the case. this is optional. but not the hands on the wheel warning.
and no, disabling speed limit warnings and lane centring assist etc doesnt help neither. those are disabled permanently in my car (with forscan).
and I dont think it uses any sensors in the wheel but the overhead camera to check if your hands are somewhere they shouldnt be. this means if someone is on the passenger seat the camera mistakes the hands of the passenger with yours and starts the warning. at least that is my interpretation so far.
