This was irking me, so I reached out to one of the gurus over on the F150 forum about this. With the exception of the Lightning, the firmware on 12" APIM's does not contain the coding for rear camera hot key that can be enabled on the touchscreen. It can be done, but it requires a physical button to be added. It cannot be done on the touchscreen.
makes much more sense! appreciate the info. I may experiment with a hard button then.

If you ever try it, you will need to enable RCOD view at speed here in the IPMA:

Does everybody have really small garages? I am trying to figure out why this is an issue.
Not necessarily the size of the garage... sometimes you just need to be efficient with the space to fit cars and perhaps other stuff.

Could you use one of the physical buttons that’s already there? For example, there’s no need for the physical demister button because there’s also a touchscreen demister button. And is it a case of having to physically hardwire a connection to the rear camera to make it work, or at least to where it feeds off the reverse position on the shifter?

I don't see why not. Below is what he told me when I asked about it:

"Its basically a ground.. All they need to do is ground that pin.. it doesnt have to be the factory camera button.. any momentary switch would work."

I am trying to get more clarity on which PIN he is referring to, because when I look up the wiring schematics in PTS for these cars, the only cable I can find that goes to the camera is a coax cable that interestingly enough, seems to go right into the APIM and does not go through the IPMA at all.

I’ve had a lot of weird quirks and issues with my GT since getting it. One more recent one was the rear view camera staying on during driving

You can use a native software workaround called Rear Camera Delay to accomplish your goal of utilizing the camera while parking in your garage.

This is what he said:

"The pin at the IPMA needs to be grounded...momentary switch will go to ground and it will trigger the IPMA to turn on the camera. You can use any switch to do this."

There is a guy on the Mach E forum that did something similar. The thread he made about it is linked below:
