I've never found a need to put "ballast" in the trunk after MANY years of driving in the snow. Besides, that extra weight means 2 things -- longer stopping distance in an already compromised environment, and if you do have an accident that weight isn't static and sitting there but can come through the folding rear seat and is now aimed squarely at YOU but your body and head will conveniently stop it.

Got up to a blizzard this morning. Only had to drive to my office 5 miles away instead of the other office which is 25 miles away today.

Yeah, I agree. only time I would want more weight in the back is if I’m stuck otherwise to many negatives when stopping or cornering

Very nice ride you have! It is nice to see people driving them a little in the Winter! Just have to know how to handle it in situations :)
If you don't have a lot of experience driving in the snow, I have 60 years experience, the Stang is probably not the car to start with!  Glenn

My first time driving in the snow was my parents' 55 Chevy with no posi in the rear and worn-out tires. I was working in the mall when it started snowing and when we got out there was at least several inches on the ground. I had watched my dad drive in the snow (he's from Minnesota, so he's good at it), so I learned very fast. I drove my '87 Camaro in the snow a few times, usually not a problem as it had a posi rear and good tires. I've only driven my GTO in the snow a couple times, once right after I bought it and it had summer tires. That was not fun and had to get a push once from a stop.

Swapped Continental all season 255/40 R19 for Michelin X-Ice North 4 factory studded 225/50 R18.

With 'Slippery Mode' traction control and good studded tires, I find this car performs above expectations - snow, ice and slush. No extra ballast, just a full tank of gas and good Bosch wipers.

I love my snow pony.

Wish we could run studded tires here in Ontario. Drive my old genesis coupe RWD with some xice without issues for a few years, ground clearance always becomes an issue long before the grip gives out.

the salt and brine usage is off the charts here in SWO, only reason I use the winter beater... slather it in fluid film every fall

I have those on my CR-V. love them. it's like driving on bare pavement at all times. Let me know how long you keep your studs or if you manage to throw them out. I am trying out VikingContact 8's and they're still new. They stop pretty well but getting going takes effort.

Snowflakes are fallin' on my head
And just like the guy whose feet
Are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those snowflakes are fallin' on my head
They keep fallin'.............................

Just got a new s650 and it's my first RWD and Muscle car. I live in Chicago and we are in the middle of winter season... Reading some of these posts had me a bit worried and was considering immediately springing for winter tire/wheel setup. I currently just have Michelin Pilot Sport 4 A/S tires, and while I haven't been cruising around in blizzard conditions or deep snow, these have more then held up in light snow and sleet / icy conditions ESPECIALLY while in slippery mode... I feel like this car handles better in those conditions then my previous FWD Hyundai Elantra. Bear in mind I work from home so in white out conditions I am fine and can always get groceries delivered but I just wonder are you guys really driving around ANY car in blizzard conditions? I am really having second thoughts on if shelling out the $$$ for a winter setup + storage is worth it for next season.

Got the blizzaks on ready to go! Been driving Mustangs during winter seasons forever, not sure why everyone is so scared

Not scared... Some of us like a clean car... and driving in the winter is the opposite of that... That said, although my S650 stays in the garage in bad weather, the S550 has X-ice tires on it...

BTW that is an S550... are you lost?

Since I won't drive my pony in the wet, unless God has his own agenda, I can't give an opinion on driving the Mustang in snow. I did own a 350Z that I drove year-round, and many times in snow. It had A/S tires and I never had a situation the car couldn't handle. That said, I have a lot of experience driving in adverse conditions, but to be honest it is 10% car, 40% driver experience, and 50% common sense. You could be driving a snow cat and.....yourself! Don’t think I could convince myself to park it for the winter tbh. I’d go crazy if I could drive it for that long.
