Highly unlikely the next gen be called S750. We'll surley get a new platform by then.
Sorry, just to clarify, I just mean whatever generation we get to replace the coupe. I hope it's a new platform, but we'll see where they end up going with it.

A new mustang on a new platform with new proportions is exactly what I want to see. Keep the long hood, fastback, flared fenders, but make it maybe 2-3 inches lower, a little wider around the arches, not as wide as a GTD, but wider than a standard s650, and push the wheels to the corners more.

Uhhh, $$$.

Why build something they can’t sell profitably in volume?
With this mentality, you would never create anything new...

Yes it costs money.
I think the only way Ford could justify the investment in a new platform would be if they used it across multiple vehicles, (i.e. coupe, sedan, and SUV). It would be consistent with expansion of the Mustang "brand" that started with the Mach E. I know that's not something most people in this forum want to hear. :giggle:
This is exactly where I was going. I could totally see a new platform, designed around multiple use cases to maximize profitability and global homologation efforts. Of course it will cost money. I would not be surprised at all if this was part of their long-term planning.

...it's a FORD and the masses are only going to pay so much.
Understood, but since Ford is asking customers to pay $80,000 for Mustangs maybe they should be a little nicer.

This notion that the car should be nicer, but somehow cheaper is a recurring fantasy people on this forum just can't seem to come to grips with. Lol.

Modern cars are expensive. That isn't going to change. And the base GT Mustang is still cheaper relative to the other competitors in its class. A new refresh or platform isn't going to bring back a 30k sports car people. Time to accept reality and it enjoy what we've got while we can.

Nicer AND cheaper is unrealistic and I don't think anyone said that. Some of us think it ought to be one or the other, though.

The buying public recognizes when companies add value to their vehicles. The Japanese did it for decades starting in the 70s, and recently it's mostly been Hyundai and Kia. They even put a DCT in the Elantra N.

Problems are, where are they going to put all this (batteries, motors) in an already heavy car?

I am one of those purists. That said, anyone that wants an electric car, let them get one. Also, not everyone wants 850hp. Where will that be used but on a race track? Few people legally race their Mustangs.
I agree, but the Mustang isn't that heavy in comparison to a lot of cars. An M2 is similar weight, an RS6 is around 2 tonnes, my smallish 2 litre SUV was only 60 or 70 kgs lighter than the Ford.
They're making cars out of lead now.

True. I just saw what they're asking for the limited edition version of what I was all set to buy before Bonnie turned my head.
$NZ110,000, my 2020 version was $NZ80K. I could buy a dark Horse for $4k more, or an RS3 for another $20K. The numbers just don't add up for Euro stuff now.

Quick, name a car that's faster and cheaper than a base Mustang GT...

I don't get where this argument keeps coming from that Ford needs to add value. The premium interiors are quite nice and the base is by no means bad. If you want "nicer", then go buy a Cadillac. I'm sure they have plenty more added value.

Just cause it’s added doesn’t mean it has value, although the multi function joystick spinner knob hands free display control mechanism isn’t half bad, in fact kinda wish the s650 had something similar.

Edit: added image for clarity.

It's up to Ford whether they "need" to do anything, but they did add value to the Mustang with the better platform and interior of the S550 vs. the S197.

But you are the one who seems to be implying they need to do something. Either make it nicer or cheaper as you said, in order to "add value". What exactly does that look like to you in a mid cycle S650 refresh?

On every single on ramp and opportunity to pass someone going 40 in the fast lane.

We had a BMW i4 M50 for a couple years when it first came out. Wasn’t 850HP but over 500 and close to 600 ft lbs of torque.

was our first electric car.

AWD, multiple motors- instant power- literally stomping on it at 15 mph getting on and on ramp and your damn face would tingle. Kid you not.

Holy crap. On ramps and hwy passing were like nothing you’ve ever experienced.

I still love the manual transmission and v8 howl… but we now keep one of each in the stable.

my wife still drives an electric (moved on to a super cheap lease on a ZDX)… she just loves the ease of getting to speed instantly and zero fuel / maintenance costs.

It gets addicting having that much power and control (AWD)…

We have both so idk 🤷

On one hand I'd like the build quality to improve on the Mustang, but on the other hand I wonder if that could potentially lower long term reliability should they focus on more luxury features over quality control.

Tangent, I'm still trying to figure out how I went from hating the low-mid RPM sounds of a V8 to absolutely giddy whenever I hear a V8 outside or inside of a car.

I wish Ford would put their money into better QC. Build quality, fitment, squeaks/rattles, etc. I find it hard to trust 10R80s after many I've experienced. The MT82 doesn't have a good rep either.

There's no way we're gonna get more for less, or even the same money. It will absolutely go up in price, I just hope with better quality. Hybrid would be a good way to fill in low-end torque. They probably can't revolutionize the V8 at this point, but they can give it significantly faster acceleration with hybrid/AWD, and that would be seen as a big performance win.

However, we know approximately what an American hybrid V8 platform costs (E-Ray) so prices will probably be similar. It's inevitable, cars are going to become increasingly out of reach for the regular Joe American. We're griping about $60K Mustangs now, they'll probably reach $100K by the end of the decade

How about “borrowing” from GTD as much as they can - across the front
