You must not travel much. I rarely encounter any stations with other than 91 octane. To get 93 or higher, I would have to go to the track 35 miles away. I have an ATV that calls for 93 octane ethanol free. The only station that had it, now only had 91E10. I finally found a station with 91E0, So far, it runs OK in my ATV, and I don't really expect any long term issues..

I live in a rural area around Lindsay, Ontario... Lot's of stations have 93 or better octane.... I've never been without an option to find that type of gasoline.

Must be a Canadian thing. It's not common in the Western US.

In many areas, altitude will affect the octane on offer. High altitude locations are often 91, max.

More dumba$$es ruin engines with low octane gas and crap oil than by abusing them. Cheap gas and oil absolutely remove any safety margin you gain by using quality gas/oil. Seriously.....we're having this discussion with the new Coyote engines that are works of art?!

They're such works of art that the engineers designed the car to run on 87 gas and put "87+" on the gas cap.

We're having the discussion because of that exactly. Somehow you know more than the people who actually designed the vehicles?

If you actually had a point they would have made the vehicle 93 exclusively. But they didn't.
If the gas cap says 87 and I put 87 and the car breaks. It is not a work of art. But a design flaw.

In Texas we have 87, 91, and 93 at almost every station in the state. Some of the smaller mom and pops may only have 87 and 93. Some of the bigger ones even have there "Shell Special because I want to charge more" types of gas. E-85 is pretty common if you really want it.

The owners manual says 91 or better is recommended. Recommended for overall vehicle performance. Meaning recommended so you get the most HP your car has to offer.

if you want a car that runs on 87 you don’t buy a performance sports car.

“I’m gonna buy a 500hp car and cheap out on fuel so I never get that 500hp herp derp”

Like I keep saying, the people are the engineers from Ford, that you happen to know more about. They are the ones that designed the car to run on 87. Why didn't they make the car run on 93 exclusively? They are the ones who put 87+ on the fuel door.

The numbers 95, 98 and 100 in Europe are not the same as the numbers they use in United States.

They use different measurements. Just like Europe use kilometers and they use miles.
