Greetings!
I am currently thinking about upgrading the wheels on my Mustang. I have a GT Premium (non PP) with the standard 19" wheels that came with the car when I purchased it. I'm thinking about changing to a 20" (20x10) squared setup. I will also be putting a little larger tire (285/35/20) as opposed to the tires that came with the car (255/40/19). My question is to any of you guys that may have already done this... do you see any issues with switching to a 20" wheel from a 19" wheel. Any issues with the ride, wheel alignment or fitment? Or should I stay with a 19" wheel (19x10) to avoid any potential problems. Any advice would be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

If you are NOT lowered a 20x10 will be no problem. A 285/35R20 should also be okay but check with whomever you are buying the wheels from.

If you ARE lowered then most companies recommend 275/35R20 or 285/30R20 to prevent any kind of liner rub under load.

I just switched from that same rim you have to a:
20X10 - 275/35/20 - front
20X11 - 305/35/20 - rear

I do find that at highway speeds my speedo shows a few mph lower, but once I get brave enough to figure out FORScan I'll fix that. Otherwise I haven't seen any issues.

My S550 is lowered and I have 20x10 with 285/35 tires. No issues that I have experienced in 9 years. My S650 Dark Horse and my S5550 GT/CS are the same basic architecture, so they should fit the same.

Have you notice noticed any handling or ride difference since switching to a 20" wheel?

It "feels" a like I'm riding just a bit higher. Which is only about half an inch, but other than that, the only difference is that I get better traction when I decide to show the loud little Civic's or Genesis 4 bangers with more exhaust than engine what a real car can do. :sunglasses::rockon:

Another point, 20s will probably have smaller sidewalls. My last GT had 2 flat front tires where the sidewalks got cut, one in a pot hole and one on a man hole cover. They were 275/35-20s. Plus some tire shops won't do 30 series tires. Also, smaller sidewalls have rougher ride. So for me, it depends on wheel availability and how you plan on driving.

Well. You know what Stangmode has to say about it.

Start around 5:50 if you’re interested.

Everybody has their point of view, and their are entitled to it. I personally love my switch from 19s to 20s. I love the look, I love the ride, and honestly it "feels" like I'm putting more power to the ground. Now that could just be that I went from a 255 to a 305 or from the awful stock tires to the the Conti ExtremeContact Sport02s, but overall I love my new setup.

No rub. Ride is fine.
Speedometer lower than GPS
2 mph at 25-30 mph
5 mph at 55-60 mph
Check tirerack.com specs for your chosen tires to be sure section width & tread width don’t stick out past body.

Previous entry stated Spring is here. Ready to ride. Show those rides. Here are mine. Sorry if it’s out of place. Couldn’t find the post in search. Operator error!

Lowered 1” with Ford Racing street springs over 19” wheels. I left a higher aspect ratio for a near future Whipple install.

In terms of looks, the 20-inch tire is the best option.
In terms of ride comfort, the 19-inch tire is better.
The quality of the roads where you live is also a consideration... 20-inch wheels don't like potholes.

On 10-inch wheels, 275mm tires will appear more square than 285mm tires, whose sides will appear more rounded… your choice.

Pay attention to the offset; it's the most important for the look... but don't overdo it, as it can affect the ride quality.

19's will give a better ride with the taller sidewalls. I went with RTR 19x9.5 with 275/40R19 all around, not lowered. helps to fill the fender gap some also. RTR's also sit more flush with the fenders, especially in the back.
