I have the 24 GT with AT… at slower speeds the AT switches back and forth like it can’t make its mind up which gear to go into and stay there.
Example: If i’m doing say, 80kms (55mph) and come to a slight grade on a hill I feel the torque converter unlock but then it switches from 10 to 9 back and forth (10, 9, 10, 9 etc) like it can’t decide which one to stay in.

Anyone have anything like this?

Is this in Normal Mode?? I do remember on my S550 in Normal Mode, it skipped gears (1-3, 4-6, 7, 8 etc up to 10th gear) from leaving from a complete stop. Maybe it’s looking at your speed plus accelerator pressure as you reach the hill incline. Should not be going from 10-9 and back to 10.

Have you tried disconnecting and reconnecting the battery? Could be a sensor issue maybe. Also, did you check the transmission fluid? If the level is low it can cause it to search for gears.

Try shifting with the paddles for a day and see if it adjusts

Should not be going from 10-9 and back to 10.
It will if the grade changes or if you adjust the accelerator.

@FarNorth, does it do the same when in cruise control (i.e., 10-9-10-9 when the grade of the road doesn't change)?

Are you in sport mode when this happens? If not, try it. Will probably fix the problem.

response to all
I mostly use NORMAL mode so yes, and yes in cruise
I’ve tried manual and it then goes into 10 and stays there, unless I purposely slow down.

When in SPORT mode the car will go through the gears to 8 and stays in 8 at 80kms (55mph) won’t go further unless I go to manual and then pull the + twice. Once in 10 it stays there. If I go back to auto from manual it downshifts back to 8.

It seems like it just wants me to drive faster.

If I’m out on a 4 lane highway doing 110kms or so (70mph) it’s all good. Goes into 10 and stays there and zips along.

I haven’t disconnected the battery yet. I may give this a try. Will I lose all my radio stations?

So I gather from reading the provided info I need to raise the car, crawl under and find a dipstick. What ever happened to the good old days when the tranny dipstick was in the engine compartment.

What the trans did in the s550 might not apply to the s650. Ford worked on improving issues from previous years. If any of todays trans learn from bad driving habits from different driving styles it may have to relearn and often if one changes driving styles. I don't baby my driving and drive with an affirmative manor. I use sport mode 90% of the time. I am very picky about my car and find this trans to be super responsive with zero compaints. If I noticed any issue I would to a complete trans relarn.

Sure, it should downshift to a lower gear (9th or 8th depending on the grade and accelerator push) with the degree of incline but it should also hold the gear until it feels/senses the incline is decreasing thus allowing it to shift up to a higher (10th) gear.

For me, once I know that I’m going up an incline I’m already pressing down and compensating on the pedal because I know that I’m going to drop 2-3 mph. Then, it grabs a lower gear and holds till I see the speed increases by which time I’m already flattened out or near that thus allowing the A10 to shift out to the next gear.

Here hold on I’ll grab a screwdriver… ok how is it now? Gonna depend on load. What is the degree of incline (grade)? Computers are slow to learn at times and at others automatic assumptions don’t apply.
