i currently dont have one, but i plan on getting a Uniden R9 eventually(tm). it should protect nicely against the road pirates' LiDAR too. i would love to get an R8w in the mean time, but $750 is a lot to drop on something i will be replacing so relatively quickly

Just FYI, if you use an Android phone, the Valentine One has a companion app called JBV1, not available on IOS.

I believe it saves all previous alerts, frequencies, etc etc from past drives and has a large overlay. Easily the best app/detector combo on the market.

The detector itself is great too, highly recommend. Had it since new.

I have used the Uniden R7 for 4 years now. It is extremely reliable and once you learn how to read the signals it detects, it becomes very obvious as to what is a cop’s radar or an automatic door opener. The new firmware can also pick up on red light cameras, which is a neat feature.

I had the ESCORT Redline Ci 360c installed into the car with Laser Shifters. By far this has been the best experience. I have also used the K40 system but find the Escort built in superior. The radar detector along with use of WAZE has saved me many times

How are the shifters?
I haven't kept up on any of this stuff but there was a time when they weren't so great.... albeit this was probably 15 or 20yrs ago and Uniden wasn't even barely an after thought then either.

Because those sneaky tax collector are hiding everywhere. I have a Uniden R8 if memory serves me right
Yes, yes, road pirates are an awful annotance. And then sometimes having the extra warning of red light cameras, speed cameras, and such can help raise awareness of one's surroundings. Always good to be aware, right? :)

My escort 360 has been a great investment. I am aware of all of the things I need to be aware of and it acts as an added layer of security so that I don't accidently have infractable incidents. Has yet to fail me.

Any updates on the Escort built in CI system? From what I have read it's not that great however I prefer an "all in one" rather than piecing together a system.
Currently I run a V1 Gen2 with JBV1 or V1 Companion... Sadly LIDAR is huge where I live (L.I. NY) so I need something extra.

There are a few things to remember about civilian radar detectors, and that's sensitivity. Although some manufacturers list the sensitivity, few laymen understand what the figures really means. By nature, civilian radar detectors are broad-band, while the radar transmitters are very narrow, and spread across frequency bands assigned to them. As a result, they alarm on other transmitters (like automatic door openers, etc.) located within the same frequency bands. Some brands incorporate 'filtering' which is supposed to help, and to some degree they do help prevent false alarms. This said, we're talking about average old radar systems used by most police departments. But know this:

Late model police-style radar systems, made within the last 3 or 4 years (albeit expensive), use stutter timing, doppler, and frequency agile technology making almost all civilian radar detectors blind. Further, the FCC rules and regulations only rate the output of a radar detector's oscillator, which is indeed low in level. Newer police radar units, however, can 'hear' these oscillators and avoid them by changing their transmit frequency. In short, by the time a civilian radar detector can actually alarm, it is too late and you're nailed. Just hope the local law enforcement agency doesn't have the latest technology on their side!
I couldn't disagree more. For example, a Police radar on Ka band may transmit on any frequency between 33.4 and 36 GHz, my V1 will detect anything within that band so close to instantly that you can't tell there's any delay.
What is dangerous is the use of Instant on radar. With this there is no transmission until the operator triggers it. A speeders defence for this is detecting radar bursts directed at other cars.
I've seen that happen many times.

Question: Has anyone here sent in their Valentine 1 back to them for updates? Is so, how long did it take for them to return it?

Never for an update per se, but I've sent both of my gen 1's in before for just a general 'tune up' to make sure everything was properly calibrated and working as intended. As far as I can recall, it was only like 2 weeks round trip.
