As I approach my first oil change after break-in, I debated going with my favorite which was always Mobil 1 full synth oil and filter, but I was also debating going with Motorcraft full synth and filter.

I did enough research to drive myself crazy, but found these 2 video tests, that found the Motorcraft oil the #1 winner and below it, the Motorcraft FL-500 filter the #1 winner out of a test field.

Was every oil and filter tested? Nope.

Are these test results good enough for me to decide to go with Motorcraft?

yup. 😁

In short, the Ford filter was praised for it’s construction and high flow that the Coyote 5.0 might demand.

The Ford oil came out on top for wear, viscosity, and proper amount of additives that the Coyote might require.

I think I can finally stop overthinking it now….lol.

I appreciate what Project Farm does but that test he does with the lubricity tester isn't relevant. Would like to see him do something with fuel or water dilution or an actual engine but he's just a guy with a big garage so I can understand.

In a perfect world you'd get a Coyote crate engine on the stand, make a bunch of dyno pulls on it with one oil, analyze the oil afterwards, then do pulls with another brand of oil...and then maybe get a couple identical vehicles, run them in all kinds of weather conditions for a year, analyze the oil...

For sure the tests aren’t perfect, but I guess my overall point is, these video tests are enough for me to feel good about going with Motorcraft oil and filters. I’m going full synth after 1,000 miles …And really wanted to pick one lane and stay in it.

These videos might help anyone else debating which brand to go with as well.

For those loyal to other brands… I get it, and I’m sure they are great as well.

I’m surprised Mobil 1 came in 4th, though.

Costco Full synthetic. Anything else is a Waste of money. Put 168,000 on my 2012 Coyote before I sold it. I always run the Ford/Motorcraft Filter.

Motorcraft's current filters are junk. The loose glue pieces are a real QC issue.

I haven’t had that issue yet, but it doesn’t surprise me. I think the latest ones are made in China.
