Thanks for explaining! Did you have to remove the wheel or wheel well liner to do it that way? Did you need any special sockets, extensions, swivels or oil filter wrenches to do the job? Sounds like you can drain the pan without removing anything from the underside of the car. I have a lot of tools but wondering if I will need anything special.

I did remove the wheel, but I didn’t have to remove anything else.

I used a cup style filter wrench and a u-joint with a couple extensions. That’s about it.

I don’t remember what size my filter wrench is, but if you happen to have one that fits a 2004 VW Diesel Jetta filter housing, that’s the one you need

Yea I saw that's why I was asking for new recommendations since all the ones posted were for the old pan

Deefill M12 x 1.75. Buy from Amazon, quality is excellent. BTW- stock plug is either not magnetic or incredibly weak.

I went with Valvomax, made in the USA by veterans out of 304 steel.
Deefill is nice, but made in China.

Not sure about the specs for the 2023, but the one I bought fit perfectly (M12-1.75)
