I had 4.09 gears on my 2020 S550 GT, and I loved it. You will need either a tune or a ProCal as you can't change in Forscan.

Hi, I'm new here and I have a question before i sign on the dotted line for a 2026 Mustang GT and it is regarding the MT82 D4. I've read a lot of threads on the MT82 and Tremec so it is not so much about reliability or problems but rather how does the tall gearing in the MT82 actually feels when having a little fun in the twisties, rev matching, heel toe, etc? For context i have a lightly modded Focus RS and the gearing on that car is just nice, there are more negative comments I'd read regarding the tall gearing on the MT82. Is it really that bad? (Where I live i can't get the Tremec at all, its either the MT82 or 10R80). Thanks.
It's a GT (Grand Tourer ... like a 928 GT). You want a "GT3" version of the mustang GT... .get a loaded Dark Horse. Personally... having come from 18 years of road racing, owning 25 911's over the years, Ferraris, etc... The GT does GT perfectly. The tall gearing is great.... Nice bit torquey V8 that pulls hard to 7500rpms... the car loves the long gear. It works. The auto blipping is super cool... and BTW... you don't even need to touch the gas to take off from a start... it gives it gas automatically when you let out the clutch pedal. Love it. Needs a throttle controller to sharpen the throttle response... $200 & 5 min fixes the problem the way the car should have been delivered. Personally I like the 3.55 as a GT with what the car & and engine are.

If you want off the line snap... get the slush box. But nothing like a muscle car with a stick!

When I was test driving S650s I started out with two base Manual GTs. Coming from Tremec I wanted to see the difference. The base Manuals felt slowish off the line and I didn't really like the ratios. When I switched to the Auto there was a NOTICEABLE difference. Much improved off the line and the close shifts felt great. It actually made up my mind that I wanted to go back to auto.

Now, full disclosure the PP Manuals have 3.73 rear ends and I think all base GT Manuals are 3.55. A fact I didnt know at the time that surely would have made a difference.

So when shopping for a car check the window stickers for the gear ratios. It makes a difference. Test drive different cars if you need to feel the difference. 👍🏻

The MT82D4 ratios are:

S650 Mustang Tall gearing on MT82 1778069681864-uy

10R80 gear ratios are

S650 Mustang Tall gearing on MT82 1778069656099-6

Very easy to see the problem there.
