As most folks here already know, when software gets updated, Ford in their infinite wisdom (?) resets the dash colors and gauge layouts among other stuff. Well, that happened to me about noonish today. When I checked the software version, it was 24C35. I believe that was the version my dealer installed about 6 weeks ago (blank screen issue). I did go look on line for an explanation, but the last listed update was last fall. And why? They make us download a non-specific manual on line, notify us when there is a recall (if you're signed up for Ford Pass), but can't tell up much else! Anyone else get a fresh update?

I've got to figure out where it shows the version. In the scheduled updates area it doesn't seem to. Or, I'm missing it.

A point of correction.

The software update _AND_ the sync 4 bug which sometimes resets them both do this. The reset includes
- resets gauge colors to default
- turns off ambient lighting.
- sets the ‘Alarm’ to prompt on exit

you could probably workaround the gauge color issue by making your colors the default colors, defaulting ambient lighting to on and if interested defaulting Alarm to no prompt. I have not researched any of these.

It's so weird though. I get bugs...used to do software development. But this is weird. My second day of ownership everything reset. Even the map lost my saved locations for home and work. I reset it all. A few days later my colors reset and the map stuff was gone again, but everything else was still there. So I reset the map and my colors. About a week later...colors got reset. Happened again a week or two later. Now...it's been over 3 weeks and nothing has reset- at least nothing noticeable! So I dunno. As long as it stays now, I guess I'm good. Just very odd how it was happening. I hope it doesn't happen again!

It’s going to happen again :-/

An OTA update will do it every time. Whatever glitch is going on resetting the toggle features seems to happen randomly. I went for months and had 3 occurrences, one was the ubiquitous ABS module update and that one went further, whacking my custom drive mode and a few more settings- the mode was completely gone. After that, every s/w update reset it, so I shut off auto updates and it’s happened at least 3 times since December ’24, approximately when I shut off updates. I just reenabled OTA updates after realizing it’s pretty much futile to fight this right now.
And of course... #FirstWorldProblems

I'm all-new to this forum. I have a 2024 near-new Mustang EcoBoost Premium and a 2025 Ford Maverick. I love the vehicles. I hate the software.
Any clues on this one?
Press start. Vehicle lights up. System takes a little time to stabilize.
What I call radio comes on. Ford SYNC (I think that's what Ford calls the radio).
On the center screen the HOME button is on and there are two "cards" to the right. One is APPLY CAR PLAY.
I can push that button (card) and get to the playlists stored on my iPhone (Car Play works).
At this point, if I want to go back to Ford SYNC, I can't. The two right hand cards are 1) the song that's playing from my iPhone and 2) iPhone Car Play - AND - the home button is greyed out and there is no SOURCE button.
In other words, I'm locked in Car Play hell.
This happens in both the Mustang and Maverick.
The only way I can get out of this is:
shut down my iPhone.
select a station on Ford SYNC
restart my iPhone.
The Ford Sync remains until (heaven forbid) I select Car Play again. If I do that, hell repeats.

This might help. Pressure the HOME button top left of center screen. CarPlay will still be active, but the screen will now give you other options. I do this and sometimes use the SiriusXM in my car vs the app on my phone. I change it my changing the music source. I never use the SYNC navigation and almost always use my iPhone CarPlay for navigation. Play with the screens swiping side to side on the left display and up and down on the smaller displays on the right side of the screen.

Give this a try and let us know if you have more questions.

That is really odd. Are you SURE the home button won't work if you tap it? No other dialogue windows are open? I would try removing your iPhone from the Sync system. Then set it up again from scratch maybe. Even if your source is just bluetooth sync instead of CarPlay or something, the HOME button works, at least for me. If none of that works I'd definitely ask your dealer.

That being said and on a separate note, talking about system settings resetting. I had a Roush SC put on my car Friday. Doing that, I assumed they'd disconnect the battery so I was ready to reset everything. Got the car back and oddly, all seemed the same. In digging into the system I found only that my setting for when the car should start in "quiet" mode had been turned off, but I figured that MIGHT have been turned off for their testing on dyno, etc. But other than that, the only thing changed was that my ambient lighting color was reset to that default Amber color. So odd how these settings reset "on their own" apparently!

Thanks for the feedback regarding Car Play Hell, but,.., no dice. It simply won't leave Car Play.
A couple of things. When my iPhone isn't present (or off), the vehicle system goes back to the built in Ford infotainment system. There is an iPhone or Car Play card if you want to go back to CPH. Also, again, this also happens in my 2025 Maverick Hybrid. I have an iPhone 13 Pro with the latest IOS. I will continue to pursue.
Regarding another frustration matter which was mentioned in the thread, I also had a problem starting the vehicle in QUIET EXHAUST mode. Turns out on my 2024 EcoB, digging into SETTINGS - VEHICLE - QUIET START, there are two criteria that come up, Quiet Start On/Off, and, Time Period for Quiet Start. Since I just got the Mustang, I kept checking QS On/OFF and it was ON, but it wouldn't start in quiet mode. Turns out, you also have to set the time period when QS is ON. To me, this is ridiculous. It simply defies logic. If you want the car to start quietly, there is no time period associated with what you want. BUT, what I did is set the start time to 12am and the end time for 11pm. So far, it now starts in quiet mode.

Mine updated for the first time last night and today when I started it the radio was on a random AM station and EVERYTHING is back to some, I suppose, default setting. I had turned off the rev match on down shift a few months ago and now even that’s back on. So I have to go in and change back to the way I want my car to be. Ridiculous that ford can’t leave it the way they find it. How often do these updates occur?

OK, this is a bit reassuring. Today I got in and my gage and My Color Lighting went back to default. Also some custom selections went back to default…like it started asking again if I wanted to disable Motion detection upon shut down, when I had it deactivated in the menu.

I guess I have to go through all my menu selections to see what changed.

Anyone know what the update was for?

There's no exact answer, it depends by the area and the vin and if you receive an update before another. For mine (EU) last was: PT-25.11.1
