Understood, but since Ford is asking customers to pay $80,000 for Mustangs maybe they should be a little nicer.

Ford didn't ask me to pay $80,000, not even close. With, might as well say 500 hp, I have plenty of fun, and in fact, can't come close to using it in everyday traffic. People always want more for the same price. My car doesn't rattle, and in fact, is a very tight car. And what really kills me is people freely go buy a Mustang then start bad mouthing it. They can always be gotten rid of.

There are currently NO plans for a hybrid, but there are plans for a new EV platform, and that is where Ford is putting its R&D budget.

gonna get hate for this but only thing to change is to get rid of the computer screens inside for traditional looking dash....they can incorporate screens behind and do everything they need to do.... everything else looks ok. my theory is if it aint broke why fix it?
most of you wont have this car for more than 5+ years anyway because it is designed to fail (as with all other cars) so does it really matter anymore what we want??

Totally agree with SINBUSTER. I plan to sell or trade my 2024 before the warranty is up. Out of warranty is when these cars will hit you in the wallet! What is the cost of a new dash out of warranty? The car is a great car, but it could have been made to last. If the Mustang is your forever car you better buy a great extended warranty.
Also keep in mind most car makers provide parts for ten years. After that you are SOL...sure out of luck!!
If you want a forever keeper buy a 65-66 Mustang and drive a slow car fast!

Yeah, originally I was curious about what members thought about a possible MY27 refresh and how it might compare to what happened in 2018. New platforms and hybrids are a little past that.

If you do some checking, the 07-12 Shelby GT 500's have a PCM that Ford no longer makes or sells. Some aftermarket repair facilities can "sometimes" fix them. You can end up with a $40K Brick in your garage. Don't bet on the aftermarket to save you. The FOX body and the 60's Mustangs were simply. The S650 isn't a simple car. IMHO!!

Nope, computer screens aren't going away and nope, cars are not designed to fail. It doesn't take a mechanical engineer to figure out that cars do take a beating, they do have moving parts that wear in the process of being used, new cars last a LOT longer than they used to, they require motor oil so the parts will work with one another, tires and wheels roll, and there are thousands of other parts that move. Moving parts fail. What part of a Ford is designed from the beginning to fail?

Why is Ford and every other brand working on the next iteration of their offerings right now? Answer: so we will like them and buy them. Yes, now and then they design and produce cars that don't sell. Everyone on this forum is a car enthusiast that owns a new or newish car for their own reasons.

Does it matter if someone only owns a car for five years because someone else will own it after that. And no, I don't hate you for anything you typed. If we were all car designers, nobody would buy them, LOL!

More power isn't necessary. Thank God for the awesome high-revving NA Coyote V8. A few thenth shaved from acceleration won't make a difference. The soundtrack of the V8 is off the charts at any speed and that is what matters (for me anyway).

Wish/dream list for the next Mustang:

• Retain NA pure ICE V8 and 6MT
• Significantly smaller size and lighter weight
• Get rid of the all screens dashboard and back to analog and buttons, especially for HVAC and vital controls
• Get rid of TVN (Total Vehicle Networking) or at least offer buyers this as an option. I am not at all comfortable with my personal data being available to Ford, the government or insurance companies to have access to. And certainly abolish the ability to neutralize the vehicle remotely by 3rd parties.

There was a click bait short vid on youtube of a modernized fox body. It looked so good with simple minimalist design and back to basics. Alas, i doubt there is a shred of truth to it.

We're talking a mid cycle refresh here. Not a brand new redesign. And I hate to tell you, but the screens and technology are here to stay. Sounds to me like you need to go get yourself a nice foxbody.

Because this thread seems to have evolved into a "What do you want for a next generation mustang" discussion. I want the next mustang to basically build on the s650 in terms of design, and engineering, instead of throwing everything out.

Retain the 60s muscle car look, fastback, flared fenders, an even longer hood, stretch the wheelbase a little bit, shorter overhangs, especially in the front. Make the dash to axle ratio longer than the front overhang. Basically retain the muscle car look, but make it so beautiful that even people who know nothing about cars want one purely based on looks.

There's an Aston Martin one off in dark green called the victor I believe, I would like to see the mustang move towards those sort of proportions, but done in a muscle car way.

In terms of powertrain, hybrid is the obvious answer. It's the only way the V8 could live on long term. Hybrids are a lot better than people realize. Just imagine a mustang V8 hybrid that was way punchier off the line that a normal 5.0, with AWD so you could drive it in the rain and snow easier, and be getting 30 mpg around town instead of 19. It's more appealing than people realize. In terms of weight, I wouldn't be surprised if Ford found a way to incorporate more aluminum into the mustang's structure over time, or other materials like fiberglass for certain panels.

There seems to be a lot of love for the fox body and new edge in niche enthusiasts circles. Here's how I feel about that. Taking inspiration from the new edge or fox body for the next V8 coupe would be a massive mistake.

The love for those cars seems a lot more hit and miss than for things like a 60s mustang. Something like a 1967 mustang gt 500 is timelessly beautiful in a way a foxbody or new edge will never be, and as such, appeals to a much broader range. Pretty much everyone I've ever met regardless of age, or how into cars they were, loved the looks of 60s mustangs. Ford should evolve the design, but stick to that, in a similar fashion to how Porsche has kinda found a shape for the 911 that works really well. Non car enthusiasts find the fox body/new edge generic or ugly, and even within enthusiast crowds, it's very hit or miss. Making a mustang V8 coupe look like a new edge would result in sales dropping like a rock.

I personally believe although it doesn't make everyone happy, the best solution is keep the V8 coupe looking like a larger muscle car, but offering a smaller affordable mustang hatchback on this new EV platform with foxbody/new edge inspired styling. There was already a fox body hatchback, so bring back an affordable sporty hatchback with foxbody styling.
