Motortrend:
2024 Ford Mustang GT Convertible w/ Performance package
TRANSMISSION: 10-speed automatic
CURB WEIGHT (F/R DIST): 4,096 lb (54/46%)
QUARTER MILE: 12.2 sec @ 116.8 mph

You are comparing a 10spd auto to a manual M2. A 8 SPD auto M2 ran 11.6@121mph. Although that is an impressive time for the Vert.

Hey Dave,
Just like you, I also changed to the S58 side. First with a ZF8 awd (X3M) then to a MT M3 rwd.
The M3 is an awesome car but guess what...I'm lurking the forum thinking of trading it in for a Dark Horse. I miss the V8 too much. My tuned X3M was possibly quicker than my SC S550 and G80 M3 mt. The M3 is faster than a DH...but at the end that NA V8 sound...cant ever make the S58 sound as good. I miss it.
There's always a quicker car out there. What matter really is enjoying the experience and the sound is fundamental.

against a twin turbo 6 that weights around 300+- less, for 10k the pony (is the base gt 6 just ever so slightly quicker in the quarter than ..) can get whipped and still be able to enjoy dinner for the next 10 months.

I will just leave this right here...this was a manual M2 not an automatic. It ran the same time as the SS with the 10spd, but it was an automatic. A 12.2 @119mph with a manual is a time the Mustang would dream to have.

Don't really GAF

Doesn't matter if it went twice as fast... the m2 has to be one of the most pitiful looking cars ever made tbh.

News flash, S650 Mustangs cost as much as M2s now. I had an S650 on order, it has been delayed now until 3 Sept. If it gets delayed anymore it becomes a 2025 S650. The cost is almost the same as a base M2 which already pretty much comes with all the goodies.

I hear you, I am still under break in with the M2. However, I already miss the sound of my modded S550. That's about it though

If I had an M2, I'd have to have two. That way, I could sh*t on one and cover it up with the other. 😆

Cant touch the sound of the v8. However, in my opinion there's more elements in favor of the S650 vs G8X.

Interior > G8X
Price/Quality > G8X
Power/weight > G8X
Handling > even
Brakes > even
Tuning > S650 (whipple vs femto)
Sound > S650
Aftermarket > S650
Repairs > S650
Community > S650
DIY: S650

I really like the M4 Xdrive competition, that model in particular seems to be the nastiest thing BMW has ever put out.

Thats the point: manual DH premium(only model comparable to base M2/M3) starts inbetween the base(manual) M2 and M3.
Competition and xdrive are not comparable power(remember bmw rates power at the wheels)and traction(awd)wise.
If I trade in my 3 years old M3 for a base DH I would have to put 10-15k on top of it.
In my opinion Ford went a bit too far with price on this generation...

Indeed they did. For a DH to be comparable to a G87 M2, it needs to be a Premium trim and have Recaros and the Track Handling package. I believe that puts it at $78k MSRP while the G87 M2 MSRPs for around $64k.

It is also possible to get a discount on a G87 M2 these days:
