You do not want to force too many clicks during fillup. I love Ford’s refuel mechanism, no switch no lock just drive up and pump but they are notorious (at least on the Focus) for failing purge valve, canister or solenoid with repeated fueling full clicks. I had to replace mine at 50k km. And strangely enough out of all the cars I have, the fuel station attendant was mindful to ask me whether to stop at first click when I drive up with my Fords.

Right, but if the nozzle shuts off after 1 gallon of gas pumped? That's what's happening to me.
Try not going so deep, try just the tip but gotta be on your toes or it may end up there as well.

sometimes, on occasion, the little vent hole in the nozzle gets plugged/dirty. Try inserting the minimal amount that permits automated flow when the first catch is engaged. But if it flows you wanna keep an eye on it in case it flows quick enough and the auto click (pressure) doesn’t disengage in time you may get some overflow. There’s not too much worse than seeing the fuel drool draped across the paint.

I have a similar problem. From what I have read it has something to do with how the sensitivity is set for the shutoff. What I do is turn the nozzle completely upside down and it seems to work fine at stations like this.
I had the same problem with a Nissan Murano and used the upside-down solution! Worked perfectly! Hasn't been a problem with my GT. Glenn

It is all one tank, but there is a big hump in the middle for the driveshaft.

The fuel pump has a small line that goes over to the other side and sucks fuel over the hump and onto the side with the fuel pump. Ford's OEM pump is not strong enough to suck fuel against centrifugal force when negotiating a long turn on track with sticky tires in the wrong direction. KPM's fuel pump cures this problem.

This is the S650 gas tank.

Yes, thats what a saddle tank is.

And seriously bro, not everything has to be related to tracking. 😉

For me it's only a single Exxon station that is finicky. Others are fine. Also I never top off after a legit fill. Super bad for the EVAP system, especially on wifey's VW Atlas where it's a known issue.

I noticed that more often than not I can’t fill up my gas tank without the pump shutting off repeatedly thinking the tank is at capacity. Tried: different pump, repositioning the gas pump nozzle, etc.

Any ideas?
I believe the owner manual says when you fill up with gas and it shuts off.
Wait 15 seconds then try again.
Wat 15 seconds, try again.
You can keep doing that until it over flows.

I have the same problem. It an NYC pump issue. Most of the gas stations use old beat up nozzles. There are a few solutions
1) turn it upside down or turn the handle at an angle. like 75 degrees.
2) Or when have the nozzle at 90 degree, don't shove it all the way in. Instead, let the nozzle sag out and down a little. The down portion is important- try gently pushing down a little. The reason is that the gas nozzle has a small hole at the tip. You want that hole cleared when it is inside the filler neck.
3) try gas pumps in NJ
4) Try fingering and opening the flap for about 30 sec to let out the fumes before you pump. (if this works than you have faulty evap problem)

1,2,3 works for me. I had this issue for about 5K miles brand new. Afterwards, I guess things just wore out and never a problem agin.

And was it you that was selling the DH wheels on marketplace?

Hi,

Thanks. I'll definitely try #1 which seems to be the easiest solution. #3 Is a bit out of the way being on LI.

And yes, that was me. I sold them to a guy who's going to mount them ... on a Honda. The bolt pattern fits, so go figure.

I never thought a discussion on tank filling could turn mildly arousing.
Whatever works for you!
