I noticed that more often than not I can’t fill up my gas tank without the pump shutting off repeatedly thinking the tank is at capacity. Tried: different pump, repositioning the gas pump nozzle, etc.

Any ideas?

I have a similar problem. From what I have read it has something to do with how the sensitivity is set for the shutoff. What I do is turn the nozzle completely upside down and it seems to work fine at stations like this.

I've not had that issue except at Costco. I have to apply continual pressure to the nozzle else it will shut off.

I'll try that! I'm using BP by the way.

I had that on my old Mustang. It's not the car, it's the pump most likely. Flip the nozzle upside-down and it works fine.

Another vehicle, but I'd experienced the same effect. I found a work-around by backing the nozzle out a bit. Similar to placing the nozzle upside-down, it lessened any backsplash effects tripping the cutoff.

Somehow, I sense the local Shell station is on to the issue. The pumps themselves run slower than times past. Instead of something akin to full blast mode, they output a lesser and more steady amount.

These cars have twin saddle tanks, so sometimes if the gas filling pressure is too fast there is back pressure from the closest tank, which makes the pump thinks the tank is full.

When this happened on my 06 GT I just pumped at the lowest setting on the nozzle....that always worked.

Many others reported success by holding the nozzle upside down.

It hasn't happened to me yet on the new car and I think these still have the twin tanks.

It is all one tank, but there is a big hump in the middle for the driveshaft.

The fuel pump has a small line that goes over to the other side and sucks fuel over the hump and onto the side with the fuel pump. Ford's OEM pump is not strong enough to suck fuel against centrifugal force when negotiating a long turn on track with sticky tires in the wrong direction. KPM's fuel pump cures this problem.

This is the S650 gas tank.

I never try to add more fuel once the pump nozzle shuts off. It's my understanding that overfilling can cause damage to the evaporative emissions system. So that when more gas is added it can enter the charcoal canister that is designed to handle only gasoline vapors, not liquid fuel, making the canister ineffective. Then there are associated repair costs with replacing the gas saturated charcoal canister. This was confirmed by a mechanic at my local Ford dealership.

Once the nozzle shuts off, I am done filling the tank.

Yep, flip the nozzle and you should be fine OP........ When I 1st got my C6 ZR1, I must of looked like I never pumped gas before. Putting the nozzle in, taking it out, putting it back in......... dribbling gas on the car, cussing GM, then cussing at the pump.

Station attendant was nice enough to tell me over speaker, too try and flip the nozzle. No issues since. Hope you get it figured out OP.......

Great point. I used to top off. I had to replace a canister, and I am careful about not topping off anymore.
Been there with the Costco, or similar nozzles that have the spring-loaded shroud intended to capture vapors. You have to ensure the nozzle is seated fully. But....that doesn't sound like the issue for the OP. I've venture to say a saturated canister is the first likely possibility for the OP to look at. Common symptom/problem.

Right, but if the nozzle shuts off after 1 gallon of gas pumped? That's what's happening to me.
