I bought my GT Premium last July 2024. In April 2025, I had the oil and filter changed at the dealership after 6 months of winter storage with 780 miles on the clock. Yesterday, as I started the car, I got an OIL CHANGE DUE warning on my screen. I now have about 1100 miles on the car.
Does anyone have an explanation for this? Four months and 300 miles and I need an oil change???
I normally change oil every spring and put maybe 1500 miles per year on my car.
Thanks for input.

I thought of the dealership not resetting the oil monitor. If the one year rule applies, this all makes sense.
I need to check the screen to see if there's a "Remaining oil life percentage" on there.
BTW...keep an eye on your Ford Pass Bonus points. They do expire in a short period of time!!!

I've always pulled the dip stick and look at the oil. If it looks like it needs changing, usually after 5K-8K, then I change it. The OLM's are, to me, just reminder notices.

Ford insists the additives in the oil are only good for a year

The oil life calculator deducts for age even if the car sits

Mine went 3200 miles between oil changes and exactly one year after the last time the monitor was reset it went to ZERO oil life went

When I left the car in May, it had 20% life left, then every time someone drove the car around the block for me, which was about every 3 weeks the FordPass app would drop the oil life.

2 weeks ago it was at 4% then it went to zero exactly 365 days since it was last reset.

I reset it and went to get the oil changed.

Once I am out of warranty I'll go 2 years/ 5000 miles, 7500 at most.

That's not necessarily a great idea with modern oils. The detergent package in them is designed to hold contaminants in suspension which makes it look dirty when it's still got a lot of life left.
On the other hand, if you feel good about doing that, the oil company will love you.

Do you really want "dirty" oil circulating through the engine even though some lab test says it's okay?

It'd be like taking a bath after four other people. The test strip says it's good for a few more uses!

How about 4 other people at the same time? With the choice of participants?

The oil life monitor will tell you to change the oil after one year... with 0 miles! It is time based as well as mileage...
He changed his old 4 months ago.

Most likely the dealer didn’t reset the oil monitor when you had changed it in April. Alway check the percentage after service. 👍🏻

Precisely. I'd change the oil in my road race car after each weekend event, even though the oil still looked good. I was confident there would be enough containments, etc. in it to warrant changing, and yes, I kept oil companies happy. Walmart was a good friend of mine.

This is why I will never buy a used car when publishing like this is out there!
