I want to see a drag race between a 10 speed GT and the DH before I decide which car to order.
If you are only concerned with drag racing, the GT is for you. Lighter because less coolers, and the power difference isn't large at all.

If you want a car that can do 20 minutes of sustained heavy laps at a road course, you want the DH, because the GT will most likely hit limp mode.

Everyone talking about the 5.0, and I'm all about that. But, it's cool to see that the EB is getting port-injection as well. First time that's happened on the 2.3, right? I'd like to see that change come to all 2.3s in Ford's lineup - would make a fairly reliable engine even better since carbon build up wouldn't be as big of a concern as the miles rack up.

Do they have a facebook page? Or an instagram? Let's all join in on the fun lol

I'm trying to leave a comment on Ford Authority's page (they just posted this), but the comment keeps getting deleted. Guess they don't like people calling out their garbage journalism. Don't get me wrong, FA has been a very useful resource. However, they put their blinders on when they posted that fake window sticker. Or worse, they did it intentionally for the clicks and sensationalism.

DI and PI together = potential for major upgrades since fuel delivery is already setup!

HO HO HO HORSEPOWER: ALL-NEW MUSTANG DARK HORSE DELIVERS 500 HORSEPOWER; MOST POWERFUL 5.0-LITER V8 EVER

  • Mustang Dark Horse – the most powerful naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 Mustang ever – delivers 500 horsepower thanks to a uniquely engineered new fourth-generation Coyote V8
  • Mustang GT offers up to 486 horsepower thanks to a new dual-throttle body design with available active-valve performance exhaust system
  • All-new Ford Mustang EcoBoost features the all-new turbocharged 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine delivering 315 horsepower and 350 ft.-lb. of torque for the most standard horsepower ever
DEARBORN, Mich., Dec. 15, 2022 – Ford is spreading the holiday cheer this season by giving Mustang fans exactly what they had on their wish list: more horses across every engine offering for the all-new, seventh-generation 2024 Mustang, including 500 horsepower with the Mustang Dark Horse.

“Mustang has always pushed the envelope. From Mustang GT to Dark Horse, this is our best 5.0-liter V8 yet. It’s naturally aspirated awesomeness,” said Ed Krenz, Mustang chief engineer. “And Mustang EcoBoost fans are also getting a boost in power to make every Mustang more fun and visceral to drive.”

First-ever Mustang Dark Horse delivers 500 horsepower

For the pinnacle of 5.0-liter V8 performance and track capability, the Mustang Dark Horse features a uniquely engineered fourth-generation Coyote V8 engine with 500 horsepower and 418 ft.-lb. of torque* to set a new benchmark for Mustang street and track performance, and the most powerful non-Shelby edition ever.

Powered by Ford Performance know-how, the Coyote engine was upgraded even further to produce 500 horsepower, delivering its most powerful naturally aspirated V8 yet. These upgrades include a uniquely balanced crankshaft and forged piston connecting rods – the latter first introduced in the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500 – to handle higher cylinder pressures and piston speeds. Mustang Dark Horse also sports strengthened camshafts for track-durability needs, including extended operation closer to its 7,500-rpm redline.

“Every time someone gets behind the wheel of a Mustang, we know they want to feel that strong connection to their vehicle – and we’re just as invested in creating that bond,” said Suzanne Robinson, Coyote engine program supervisor. “With the increased responsiveness you get from the new dual throttle bodies, we’re wringing every ounce of performance we can out of our engine so Mustang enthusiasts can have that experience.”

Most Powerful Mustang GT 5.0-liter V8

At the core of making the all-new Mustang the most exhilarating and visceral Mustang yet is a new fourth-generation Coyote V8 engine. The available active-valve performance exhaust system enables the Mustang GT coupe and convertible to deliver 486 horsepower and 418 ft.-lb. of torque**. Beyond the boost in power, the system’s free-flowing design delivers a custom-V8 sound with the ability to close the valves to restrict the amount of noise made by the car.

Those opting for the standard Mustang GT still enjoy 480 horsepower* -- the most standard power in a naturally aspirated V8-powered Mustang ever. In addition, the engine delivers 415 ft.-lb. of torque for the most standard torque ever.

The fourth-generation Coyote V8 features a segment-first, dual intake and dual throttle body induction system that’s matched with structural improvements and upgraded oil pan. This helps minimize induction loss by enabling higher air flow rates.

For Mustang GT and Mustang Dark Horse, horsepower and torque ratings are the same for automatic and manual transmissions.

Turbocharged Mustang EcoBoost delivers up to 315 horsepower

Continuing a tradition of affordable performance, the all-new 2024 Mustang EcoBoost delivers on the nameplate’s legacy with its all-new 2.3-liter EcoBoost engine that produces 315 horsepower*, the most standard power in a four- or six-cylinder Mustang ever. In addition, the engine delivers 350 ft.-lb. of torque.

Mustang EcoBoost also offers the optional active-valve performance exhaust system designed for even more excitement from its turbocharged-soundtrack.

The Mustang EcoBoost coupe and convertible feature a new engine from the ground up that incorporates Ford’s new Modular Power Cylinder (MPC) engine architecture, driving prowess in design and function – and is targeted to have improved EPA-estimated fuel economy over the outgoing model year***. It uses a new Bore to Stroke ratio, Port Fuel injection coupled with direct injection, variable cam timing, integrated Exhaust Gas Recirculation and Twin Scroll turbocharging technologies to deliver the performance Mustang drivers expect.

The all-new 2024 Mustang coupe and convertible models go on sale in the U.S. starting in the summer of 2023 and are assembled at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Flat Rock, Mich.†

*Horsepower and torque ratings based on premium fuel per SAE J1349® standard. Your results may vary. Horsepower and torque are independent attributes and may not be achieved simultaneously.

**486 horsepower can be achieved on Mustang® GT models equipped with Active Valve dual exhaust.

***Outgoing base model Mustang has an EPA estimated fuel economy of 22 city/32 hwy/25 combined; 2024 Mustang base model has a targeted fuel economy of 22 city/34 hwy/26 combined.

†Assembled in the USA with domestic and foreign parts.

This is nice!! I’m excited the main thing that’s going to separate the GT and DH is the options. I believe when customers see what’s available in both will help them make their choice on what they would like to order! Great numbers and news!

So I've just read 52 posts and my takeaway is that most of you are just plain nuts. So we are OK with 486/480. That's a win. Now we are going to discuss torque until the cows come home. Like a few pounds here or there is going to make any difference on the street or track for that matter.

And, of course, the Dark Horse. Some of you should go back a couple of years ago and read all the BS on the Mach 1. How it was just a glorified GT, the 20hp wasn't enough, yada, yada, yada. Now we are doing the exact same thing with the DH. Ford told us it was going to be 500HP. Now that it's confirmed everyone bitching about it. Over 6 lousy HP. How about the rest of the car? The Tremec, the coolers, etc. The advertised HP number is, has always been, and will alway be total advertising BS. And we fall for it every time.

Lastly DH pricing. Hey, y'all it's not 2016, or 2018, or 2020. Forget what a GT350 then, it's pointless. The DH will be what it will be and folks are going to line up to buy every stinking one of them. Most probably with ADM. What's the old line about history repeating itself.

So, I expect the next few hundred threads to be no different than the last 52. Instead of being appreciative of what we have we are going to continue to complain about what we wanted. Oh well, carry on!

Couldn't have said it better. We should be celebrating, instead folks are nitpicking about everything they could lol. Oh well, can't wait for the order banks to open up!

Save your judgement for when you drive it
I doubt it. Then he would have to come on here and admit what a fool he made of himself. Just like those who crapped on the Mach 1 early on. And not let's forget those who thought the Bullitt was nothing more than a green GT.
