I took the car out for another run on the highway this evening because I needed to check the transmission fluid, and I was able to get the AEM engine oil temperature gauge up to 245 and the inferred temp showed 238.

The only real trends I can see so far is 1. Cruising at low rpm the inferred temps read high by up to 10 degrees and 2. The inferred temp does not change as quickly as the actual temps shown on the AEM gauge when pushing the car or after easing off. In both instances, the aftermarket gauge shows temperatures either increasing or decreasing faster than the inferred.
How do you get your oil temperature up to 245 on public roads? I have never seen higher than 220s on public roads, trying to increase the temperature.

5th gear on the interstate runs the engine over 5000 rpm. Slow down to about 65, then push it to 80 aggressively enough to put some strain on the engine, but not so much as to get a ticket for reckless driving. You do that a few times and you can get the temperature up. I anticipate I’ll see 290 on the track.

I got out of a very heavy speeding ticket because I had my laptop out and open on the passenger side seat actively running a datalog. Cop saw it and must have been a car guy. Knew it was HP Tuners software. Asked me a bunch of questions making sure I was legit testing a tune rather than being a hooligan - plus my perfect driving record helped. And he let me for for what should have been a very expensive ticket or probably a reckless driving charge...LOL

I was making a pull on a completely dead road and he was in a pull off behind some trees where it looked like a driveway used to be. I never saw him until he was racing up to me as I was decelerating lol.

I’m fortunate to live only about 5 miles from the interstate, but also out in the woods with long stretches of straight nothing roads. It works pretty well for testing out mods and bedding brakes. I try not to get too crazy with it because you never know what kind of deputy or trooper you’ll encounter, and they are everywhere in South Georgia.

You need a radar detector. You would've known he was there way beforehand. Mine has saved me alot of trouble.

Results from today’s track sessions at Road Atlanta. This is with Red Line 5w-50.

Session 1. Forgot to make notes and can’t remember exact temps.

Session 2. Ambient Temp: 84 degrees. Observed high oil temp while driving per AEM gauge was 267 with inferred temperature showing 264. High oil temp during the session per AEM max reading: 269

Session 3. Ambient Temp: 87 degrees. Observed high oil temp while driving per AEM gauge was 277 with inferred temperature showing 274. High oil temp during the session per AEM max reading: 277

Session 4. Ambient Temp: 90 degrees. Observed high oil temp while driving per AEM gauge was 280 with inferred temperature showing 278. High oil temp during the session per AEM max reading: 280

Overall I am pleased to see that the actual and inferred temperatures while running 5w-50 on track are very close. Every time I checked the temps, they were within 4 degrees on track. I have two more days of tracking ahead and I’ll report those results as well.
