I need a quiet exhaust. Quieter than quiet mode.

Thanks for the info on the amp. I just ordered refurbished airpods with noise cancellation from Best Buy and I hope they help a little. Supposed to get them Saturday.
That just reminded me. I used to use these ear plugs when riding my bike. They allow normal frequency sound through and reduce the annoying/damaging ones like wind roar and exhaust.

I posted my thread about needing a quieter exhaust on the S550 forum and was told that at least for the S550 series, the Ecoboost exhaust without the Active Exhaust option come with a factory resonator upstream of the mufflers, but Ford deletes the resonator for the Active Exhaust cars. One guy said he wanted a quiet exhaust and added a resonator (factory, I think) and it quieted the car down a bunch.
Does anybody here know for sure whether this same situation still exists for the 7th gen Mustangs? In other words maybe my fix is to add the factory resonator in the same location as it would be on a base exhaust car.
Google's AI assistant said that Ecoboost Mustangs with active exhaust don't have a resonator, so there's another data point. I'd feel better about committing to this work confirm the accuracy.
I'm going to go look at my car now, but I'm not sure I can see enough laying beside the car.

Follow-up. I looked under my car and don't see a resonator. Just a short corrugated flex pipe and then a short section of straight pipe that has a Y fitting to turn it into two pipes going back to the mufflers.
So now I'm going to try and look up a parts diagram from one of the dealers that sells factory parts online to see if I can find a diagram of the layout for a non-active exhaust car and maybe I'll see a resonator.
I can see why Ford might configure the car this way. I guess they figure anybody who opts for the active exhaust wants it to be loud and therefore deleting the resonator is logical. Otherwise they might get complaints about the loud exhaust not being loud enough.

If there's a resonator available it should work for you. Then you could quiet it even more with the AV. Heck, you could probably find a used one some still wet behind the ears had taken off at a performance shop. I can imagine how expensive one would be at Ford.

Look underneath and take a couple pictures. The resonator will be dead center and pretty hard to miss.

Save yourself time and money and go to a good muffler shop. Tell them what you're chasing and they'll help you figure it out. Calling up a parts department and having the service department who don't really specialize in this could end up costing you money you don't need to spend. Just my two cents, good luck!

Dale, I don't get it, why don't you go to the dealer and have the official ELECTRONIC SOUND ENHANCEMENT FEATURE turned off at first? Not trying any fuse pulling stuff, but turning it off where it has to be turned off?

In case that works, then you can donate the money you saved to someone with a problem that can really only be solved via physical parts replacement.

I don't think the sound I'm hearing at low rpms is coming from the audio system. It happens at very small, to zero throttle (under deceleration) and I doubt they'd generate fake sounds under those conditions. Plus, when I get out of the car at idle I can hear these tones coming directly from the exhaust tips.

Actually they play sound as soon as you start the engine. It is meant to give a constant, basic "rumble" as you'd expect from a large displacement V8.
Again, I still don't get why you think guessing is better than testing.
No dealer around? Or are you afraid that such a little tweak could solve the problem about which you are pondering for days and weeks?

That you hear the same tone from the outside that bothers you inside howerver indicates physical treatment might also help although it's not the low hanging fruit.

I can't understand why you didn't try disabling the Forscan line I gave you.

Instead you keep commenting about you having an issue.

Maybe try solve the issue and start there?
Complaining on the forum without doing anything will not solve your problem.

I don't have Forscan software or the background for using it. It looks kind of risky in the sense I could mess up something else if I made a mistake. Plus, as I said, I can hear the deep tone coming from the exhaust tips.

Just to put your mind at ease, FORSCAN really isnt that bad. If you take your time and follow the spreadsheet you shouldnt have any issues.

I'd highly recommend it as I found that without the ESE the car was TOO quiet for my taste.

That's because you have an Ecoboost. The difference between ESE on and off is night and day since almost all the sound you hear is from the speakers.
