I need a quiet exhaust. Quieter than quiet mode.

I have a messed-up ear from riding motorcycles. Any deep-toned sound really aggravates my ear to where I can't stand it anymore. My new 2024 EcoBoost convertible seemed fine at first but after using it more during the nice weather it's reached a point where I have to wear an earplug in the bad ear, even when the active exhaust is in its quietest mode. I need an exhaust like a regular car - something you can't even really hear at all. The sound is worst at low rpm under a little power - like going up a gentle hill at 35 mph.

Is the base exhaust quiet? Is it quieter than the active exhaust in the quiet mode? I'm willing to spend a lot of money to get this car usable, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I have checked the exhaust tips and the active exhaust valves are working and fully closed in quiet mode.

This may be a first... a Mustang owner wanting a quieter exhaust! I don't know of any system that would be quieter. Perhaps adding a resonator or an additional muffler ahead of the existing ones. I think that the non-active exhaust is about the same as normal mode on the active exhaust.

Why a convertible then ?

Seems to be the first mistake.

Go to a good shop , and start asking questions. As stated , maybe you can get larger or additional mufflers.

Good luck , sorry to hear about the painful ear. Big time Bummer for a Mustang owner.

I came here expecting to be entertained by the comments. But im really sorry about your hearing issue. 😔

Standard exhaust is not any quieter than active exhaust in normal mode. I agree that maybe a visit to a muffler shop and explaining the issue to them would be the best bet. 👍🏻

Just to clarify, it seems like the issue is not necessarily intensity, the loudness of the sound, but the frequency? Anything low in tone, low in pitch, low in frequency? Low frequency signals do carry the farthest and have the greatest amount of energy per wave.

I cannot offer any guidance on what could be changed. Clarify with the exhaust business, maybe go out for a test drive as an example, to explain what you're trying to get rid of.

Wow! I'm just wondering about putting two separate mufflers in place of the resonator. You could most likely find barely used mufflers from someone who put nasty raspy mufflers in a new car and kept the originals, or a shop that has a couple taken off a customers car. I hear Shelby has all kinds of parts taken off cars and replaced with their own. I had a problem with my left ear. Was so bad I even had to put a finger in it while flushing the toilet. It subsided after a few months.

Thanks for the thoughtful replies. I got the answer to the main question, which was about the base level exhaust. As far as the question "why a convertible?", that's the whole point. I didn't want a Mustang specifically, but just a new moderately priced convertible. The Mustang is the only new convertible that fit the bill. A new German convertible was out of reach. I use the car every day in decent weather on a one hour scenic drive where the highest speed limit is 45. I've been doing this for years and the previous convertible, a Chrysler, had a lot of miles and never was very stylish. The Mustang is gorgeous in Grabber blue and I like it except for the exhaust.
I might try blocking off one of the dual exhaust outlets and maybe that will tone it down. I don't use the car for anything except the evening drive, so high performance isn't the point. It's about finding peacefulness or tranquility riding through the scenery with the top down.

First thing, remove the active exhaust. It never "really closes". Then got American Muscle and get the non-NPP lowest drone and quietest exhaust

The EB plays bassy engine sounds through the speakers. Perhaps this is contributing to your issue?
+1

The EB Focus ST featured what was called a "symposer" that added artificial exhaust noise to the interior of the ST. Not sure if that's what @Paddles is referring to.

There was a way (which I forget) to turn off/disable the symposer; which might help in your case, if there is one on EB Mustangs. Also, if you opt to go with an additional sound reducer in your exhaust system, it doesn't have to be a " resonator". Any universal fit muffler of the right length and inlet/outlet diameters to mate up with your OEM exhaust pipe may be used and will help.

Good luck getting your issue sorted out! 👍

again not being snarky but I am surprised the Miata did not fit that bill for you in the price category.
