It’s along the line of having an additional function unrelated to the primary.

if I’m getting an extra function/ability I’d rather have one that could potentially aid as opposed to one that spontaneously stops the intended operation of the engine.
I hear you: I have auto start/stop on my Mustang and it irritates me, I don't want it. I push the button every time I leave the house.

Blame the government. Once you could buy a VW or Ford Maverick for about $2,.000. High end for a car was about $4,000. I didn't have the money to buy one of them but I paid less than $9,000 for my 82 GT. My 96 GT was about $27,000. An Econo Boost is far less than a GT or Dark horse but the dollar is worth less than ever before in history. If you vote for policies that drive up government spending, you get inflation and unfortunately many do.
Believe it or not, when I was in high school the national debit was was about 3 trillion dollars. Today it's ten time that and we don't have much to show for it other than empty pockets.
If you want a real lesson on inflation, google Weimar Republic.
Government spending is but ONE of the major factors influencing inflation. However there are many others over the 40 year period you are suggesting and blaming it entirely on government spending is clearly incorrect. Inflation is actually a good thing at moderate levels.

Comparing the US or any developed economy to the Weimar Republic is just plain silly.

Blame the government.
If you think they are the sole cause, you haven't been educated very well.

When I was in high school, the national debt was only $827 billion. Know your audience.

Inflation is a good thing.
Unpopular opinion.
Indeed. You only have to look at the struggle Japan has had with zero / negative inflation to see what a huge problem it is and how difficult it is to break out of.

Oh and Japan spends more than the US on public spending which somewhat clarifies how inflation is not driven by government spending alone.

Sure ... at a $100K+ price point. That's not what the Mustang is, nor what it was ever meant to be.
Maybe not. I had a 2017 Camaro SS that I paid $41k for that had the world class Alpha chassis, a HUD, the Tremec 6 speed, GM’s Magneride(better than Ford), weighed 3600 lbs and was a true track weapon. Minus the AWD it got pretty close and IMHO has been the overall best value in a sports car of the last 25 years or more.

It’s a shame GM showed the car no love and dropped it in November. Competition is good for everyone.

Had a '16 Z06, it was $92+ 8 years ago. Almost bought a ZL1/1LE a couple years later - would have been well over $80K. And all that was well before the last three plus years of record compounding inflation. I'd still bet on six figures ... 😉

True, People now demand power brakes, power windows, power steering and high end audio. But the government requires safety items like crash resistance, air bags. much lower emissions and high milage.
Somewhere the cars became more durable. It used to be you figured on an engine rebuild at around 70,000 mile but todays cars will go 2 or 3 times that before major service.

That would put you in high school about World War II. I bow to your age and wisdom. I would be the new kid on the block.

Nope. National debt in 1979 was $827 billion. I included the link above.

Just prior to WWII, our national debt was around $43 billion.

You're right. I was looking at the wrong chart. I remembered it was 3 something. it was 300 billion. That would make it a 100 time increase.

See what ~45 years of printing and borrowing does? 😉
