hello all, let me start this off by saying i have never in my 31 years of living owned a car let alone a fast one(always had trucks). how do you guys keep yourself in check while on the highway? i find myself putting the exhaust in track mode and listening to the sweet sound of American power and it's becoming too addicting and I'm afraid it will catch up to me very quickly.

Bad boys! Bad boys!
Whatcha gonna do; whatcha gonna do when they come for you?

As a 31 year veteran of law enforcement, criminal justice, and high risk security and who has 2 immediate family members who are police officers) let me share some tips, tricks, and subtle psychological ploys to use when dealing with temptation, poor judgement (yours), and (worse case scenario) The Man.

A: It's NOT illegal if you don't get caught! So, don't get caught dummy!

B: Should you and one or more other persons be caught committing an illicit group activity; REMEMBER! The first one to squeal gets the deal! DON'T be the second place finisher!

If you do have to interact with a law enforcement type person in an impromptu road side encounter: These may help ease or eliminate stress and oncoming imprisonment!

1: It's my Mom's car, and her speedo works differetnly than my car's speedo that always reads X MPH high so I drive faster to compensate.

2: There's an emergency at my employers! There's a rabid badger attacking my coworkers, and I'm the only employee that has any badger repellent, so I need to get there quick! Can you escort me?

3: Try and strike a rapport with the LEO. i.e. Say! Is that a Blackhawk Serpa gun belt? Those are very highly rated, and I've been wanting to check one out, blah, blah, blah.......................

4: I'm sorry! My transmission has been making a funny noise at 6500 RPM, so I was just trying to identify and diagnose what it might be.

5: Do you know who the **** I am?! This should only be used by VERY confident drivers! As, it's pretty much a "Monopoly Gambit". If it doesn't work; it's go straight to jail. Do not pass Go, And, the only $200 involved will be you making bail (assuming you can).

Or, you could just use your cruise control.

All locales are different as well. Here in Texas, if you get out of your car on a traffic stop, you WILL die on the side of the road. Around 2000, I got pulled over in Georgia in a car with Georgia plates, and rolled all the windows down and had my wallet and license on the dash and hands on top of the wheel, and the office drew down on me and demanded that I get out of the car! Once I did, he holstered his weapon, and stood right by me as I gave him my info. I asked him about it and he said getting out of the car is what they require. I didn't point out to him that if I were a person with skills and larceny in my heart, that I could have disarmed and killed him easily. I had one or two other tickets there, got out of the car on both and had a conversation by the back bumper. Creepy to me.
LEOs just want to go home at the end of their shift, if you encounter them, 99% of the time courtesy and honesty will get you the best outcome. Maybe not the outcome you want, but the best. I was taught thus, and cannot fathom why anyone would do otherwise.

I started going to drag strips and road courses. After actually going fast, doing it on the streets seems silly and pointless.

Just don't go reaching for the escape prevention device on said belt.

Personally I think it's a sure win to comment on the thick azz chest rig, and ask, "does it work if someone shoots from this close"?

Reminds me of the scene in 3000 Miles to Graceland where the Kevin Costner character gets pulled over by a revolver twirling State Trooper (the day two psychos met!).

Action starts at about the 60 sec mark.

A + B = C (see a confession and it voids A).

No need to worry here in AZ. there’s always someone going faster than me. I have a hard enough time trying to keep up. Seems the minimum speed on the freeways here is 80mph.

As someone who has owned both cars and trucks, I can empathize with you.

That said, know your vehicle. Use it to accelerate and decelerate quickly but fully in control. Know what various conditions will do to your available traction for both acceleration and braking. Never give the police an excuse to pull you over because your tires chirped when shifting into second, or because your tires break loose on the asphalt. That said, you can enjoy a nice ride, quickly getting up to speed, using acceleration lanes as they are intended, and getting yourself in the best position to take a curve or multiple curves on the road.

Nothing I love better than to see a big ol' SUV on by bumper coming up on a round-about with no traffic in the area. My wife says she loves to see the "OH SH!+" look on their face when they realize that no, they really can't take that round-about as fast as I can, or they can't take that swoopy exit as at the same speed I can (still within the limit). Not something you can do all the time because you need to ensure that you actually have the round-about to yourself, and not worry about some idiot deciding that they want to beat you into the circle.

Having a sporty car isn't just about zooming down the highway. I find that most of my fun is actually taking the curves properly. Braking at the right moment, getting around that curve carrying as much velocity as I can, and then accelerating back up to speed at the end.

Remember though, at the end of the day, it's a public road, not a race track. Keep in mind that the person 5 cars in front of you might be leaking oil, a squirrel or deer may run out in front of you, or that there might be a spot of loose gravel ahead on that turn and always give yourself some cushion. If you really want to go all out, take it to the track.
