As bland as Mach-4 is, imagine if Ford went with Ferrari's naming conventions for this sedan...

Ford Mustang Ford
Ford Mustang THE Mustang (or whatever would be equivalent to the Ferrari LaFerrari)
What’s funny is Mach 4 is in reference of doors instead of speed.

If Mustang was a legit brand spinoff like Deluxe said but with a Ferrari naming, it would be Mustang The Mustang.

With how things are currently it would be Ford The Ford.

If a car like this is going to start under $40k, that means it's going to be $39,999.

The current EcoBoost starts at $32K and change. If you're going to add a battery pack and one or more electric motors to an EcoBoost, I don't see how it's going to start under $40K.

I'll believe it when I see it. 👀

Against all odds in this forum - calling the 4 door version of the Mustang a Mustang is the right call.
Regardless what other brands are doing it is important to understand business and in this case marketing and brand awareness. A 4 door hybrid is 100% built for the international market and outside of the US nobody knows anything about Falcon, X-Wing or what ever crazy names same cars had in the past. I'm a car guy, I know and I like cars but since I didn't grow up in the 70's or 80's most old car names don't ring a bell or I don't know specifically what exactly the car was. If someone in Europe knows the names Firebird and GTO he is really into cars like an absolute enthusiast. I could not name or describe any other car like a Falcon or what not and if I can't 95% of potential buyers can't either.

The only reason Porsche is what they are today is the Porsche Cayenne and if ford has to call a 4 door SUV and a family car a Mustang in order to keep the regular mustang afload so be it. If that means we'll get other iterations like a GT on a new platform I'm all in for new variations.

Poor shea is the manufacturer ki yan is the model. Spin mustang off as it’s own manufacturer and it’s no longer a ford.

It would make sense if the Maverick wasn’t so successful marketing wise. Falcon is actually more known outside of the US nowadays because of what Australia did with it, same with Capri and RS products (due to Europe).

Porsche is a manufacturer like Ford, they created suvs and sedans to help the brand yes, but to our point they have different names than the 911. Some influences in design but layout and engine choice is different. they do that to not dilute the 911.

On another note, Audi announced they were taking away 2 door variants of models, with BMW starting to do the same. Cadillac even got rid of the 2 door ats because it didn’t sell as well as the sedan.

Yup. This is what I was going to say to counter his argument. Falcon has a great legacy in places like Australia.

attaching Mustang branding to stuff is no guarantee for success. Just look at the Mach E

The xlr (and maybe one of the cts-v’s) was the last 2 door caddy that was worth a thought. Not too interested in ‘here let me put my seat up for you’ when i’m driving cadillac.

It’s funny because every YouTube video I see brings up the Mach E as to why a sedan is needed, but the sales numbers fell off a cliff. Headlines for only 2 years was how it outsold the Mustang, but no one says a word when the Mustang outsells it despite being more expensive and a 2 door. 😂

I do believe that Fathom will be good. That car would also work against the “It NEEDS the Mustang name to sell” argument.

Well the 4 door keeps the 2 door around supposedly.

S650 Mustang Ford Shows 4-door Mustang Hybrid to Dealers; Price <$40k, <4 sec 0-60, size/design likened to Panamera Ford-Mustang-Mach-4-Skizze-3051-1620x1080-4a641833fa3ef6ca

Wasn't this the official sketch from Ford when they first announced it? Of course it will never come out like that, but the direction is fine.

As far as the news goes, the 4 door is currently planned only for the US market. If that is true, that would be a bummer. A V8 Hybrid would be interesting for Europeans and others around thr world.

Journalists are debating that the V8 could be the DH engine + electric motor, that actually could exceed 600 BHP combined.

The most interesting info around this car/concept is the potential release date. 2028 or 2029 would mean the first V8 Mustang in a long time, like 22 years since D2C debuted in '04, that is actually built on a new platform. As far as I know and as others have already mentioned the current platform is a derivation from the D2C platform and isn't as flexible as modern platforms. Stretching the wheelbase, redoing wiring or adding electric motors requires some substantial changes and it would be much cheaper to simply move to another platform altogether.
However, that can't be done in a week or two. If still assembled in Flatrock the plant would have to shut down entirely or at least partially in order to implement the new platform, tooling etc. I don't know the deal Ford has with it's union on how long certain plants are kept alive, how the workload looks like or what car has to be assembled at which factory but me might get a glimpse at the future:

1. New mustang on a new platform around 2029, including a 4 door version, hybrid, AWD etc.

2. The 4 door is built on a new platform, is essentially a new car on a new platform but Ford keeps the S650 2 door on D2C until 2030or so until union contracts no longer require it.

Third option: I'm entirely wrong and will simply use the D2C to show the 4 door version with the refreshed 2 door in 2028 or so.

Has anyone any infos on what the union contracts contain regarding Flatrock, it's workload and other relevant Infos regarding V8 assembly in other factories (like we knew that a new gt500 version (SC) would be on the horizon)?
