As bland as Mach-4 is, imagine if Ford went with Ferrari's naming conventions for this sedan...

What’s funny is Mach 4 is in reference of doors instead of speed.
If Mustang was a legit brand spinoff like Deluxe said but with a Ferrari naming, it would be Mustang The Mustang.
With how things are currently it would be Ford The Ford.

If a car like this is going to start under $40k, that means it's going to be $39,999.
The current EcoBoost starts at $32K and change. If you're going to add a battery pack and one or more electric motors to an EcoBoost, I don't see how it's going to start under $40K.

Against all odds in this forum - calling the 4 door version of the Mustang a Mustang is the right call.
Regardless what other brands are doing it is important to understand business and in this case marketing and brand awareness. A 4 door hybrid is 100% built for the international market and outside of the US nobody knows anything about Falcon, X-Wing or what ever crazy names same cars had in the past. I'm a car guy, I know and I like cars but since I didn't grow up in the 70's or 80's most old car names don't ring a bell or I don't know specifically what exactly the car was. If someone in Europe knows the names Firebird and GTO he is really into cars like an absolute enthusiast. I could not name or describe any other car like a Falcon or what not and if I can't 95% of potential buyers can't either.
The only reason Porsche is what they are today is the Porsche Cayenne and if ford has to call a 4 door SUV and a family car a Mustang in order to keep the regular mustang afload so be it. If that means we'll get other iterations like a GT on a new platform I'm all in for new variations.
