This is a throwback to the comments Farley made well before the s650 was revealed. He said their goal was to make the s650 poster car worthy. Now that we've lived with the s650 for over a year now, do you think it lived up to those expectations?

I personally think it did. But I am to curious what lays ahead for the mustang as well. Now that the head of design responsible for the look of all Ford's is the guy who designed the 2017-2022 Ford gt supercar, I think mustangs in the future will be even more visually striking.

A few observations:

First one needs to quantify what defines a “poster car”. Which of course one cannot because it’s totally subjective.

Next, “striking” isn’t always poster-worthy. And if it were, it’d be subjective too. For instance I think the C8 is striking but IMO not a poster car. Way too supercar formulaic and almost transformer-ish.

And what would a new car pimp-out be without a little hyperbole? Nothing wrong with that.

Having said all that I have one and think it’s beautifu!

I've only every heard him reference "poster car" when speaking on the GTD.

Not quite, this precedes the GTD by several years.

The Drive" said:
At first, it seems obvious that an executive would want his sports car to be poster-worthy. But keep in mind that Mustangs… have not always been poster-worthy. This might be a divisive take, but it must be said: Both the SN95 and S197 Mustangs were some of the plastickiest and cheapest looking Mustangs in recent memory. They looked like they were happiest sporting a set of chrome wheels and some dumb wing. The design was forgettable at best and clumsy at worst. Whenever I see one of these things I have to look away and try to forget they ever existed.

That all changed with the S550....
The article from S550 era directly points to the "next Mustang", what is now known as the S650.

Now that right there is a poster car 😍

The S650 looks to dull in its side profile... Like the current BMW 5 series...
Other than that it definitely has more character than any other car in its price range. However, I doubt that a base GT would be considered a poster car when there are special editions and higher trims. I'm pretty sure that the upcoming GT500 successor will be a beauty and worthy of the titel ;)

I don't know what Farley said, and having worked for Ford for 5 years I wouldn't piss on him if he were on fire, but I have a 24x36 poster of an atlas Blue 24 GT at speed with mountains in the background hanging in my hall!

Is he like a dick or something? Most people I've talked to seem to enjoy working with him.

Working at a Ford dealer, I can tell you that they don't care much for the dealer body or the customer in the things they do.

Nope but I don’t think my car is either… poster cars are cars you buy if you win the lottery or are extremely successful…. Rare … unobtainable for the majority of the population… not a car you can find on most rental car lots … which if you think about it if you bought a rental car Mustang and added wheels and stripes most people wouldn’t know the difference between it and a Dark Horse or a Shelby visually

No. All of this is opinion. I was a kid at the height of the actual poster car era when you would buy a magazine and actually get a poster. Or you would actually go to the store and buy a car poster. At the height of that poster car era, what were poster cars? Lamborghinis, Ferraris, high end Porsches, and the other hyper cars that resembled these. Crazy sleek designs, wild aero elements, emphasized accents lines were the common elements. I was partial to the Lamborghini Countach and diablo. I disagree with the C8 sentiment. Is it formulaic to the supercar design? Probably. Doesn't mean it fails at it. Guess, what is available....C8 posters and it fits. Again...opinion, but I have heard many a kid go crazy over seeing a C8 at cars and coffee or what not calling it exotic or a supercar. Even 4 years in. Never heard that to a new mustang....or in all fairness to any mustang. GTD would probably change that because it has those elements above. What isn't a poster car? Not cars with boxy front ends or simplified sides that removed accent lines to be "cleaner." With the new mustang, the designers actually removed stuff that exemplified what made poster cars back when that phrase actually meant something. The S550, especially the 350 and 500, more exemplify what a poster car was about. I still wouldn't say they were poster cars either in the classic sense.

Well, I guess I have to be the devil's advocate once again.

I do not know Jim Farley, never met him, or even seen him in person. Nonetheless, I believe he's done a better job of running FoMoCo than Jim Hackett did. I base my observation on the financial health of Ford, and the dividend payments since Mr. Farley has been President of Ford.

One thing we all need to be reminded of, any CEO of a Fortune 500 company, is going to have his/her distractors, and even haters (sound familiar of late?). They're there to keep the stock holders happy, then their dealership organization happy, and lastly the folks that buy their products happy.

If there is anything out of kilter here, it's chastising someone you don't know, never met, or seen in person. As a buyer of Ford's S650 Mustang, I'm pleased, and from what I read on this site, so are a lot of other folks.

So based on everything said here, would anyone consider the Brittany Blue 60th Anniversary Mustang GT Premium,
A poster car?
