I wish I could have taken a picture, but my phone was - alas - not near at hand. On my honor, I speak truthfully.

Cruising through Chester, PA this afternoon @ roughly 1640, I see a car carrier headed towards me. "Hmm, looks like a mustang 650 in front, go Ford!" Oh waaait...

I realized then it was not just a mustang, but a Blue Ember Dark Horse just like mine, and not just one other like mine, ALL 10 vehicles being transported were also identical Blue Ember Dark Horses.

So you thought there was an aura of exclusivity to the DH, what with allocations and all that? Guess again. I felt betrayed. It was like celebrating the privilege of passing the almost impossible Chemical Engineering PE test (the proverbial Kobayashi Maru of engineering tests), only to discover everyone else also passed.

The vaunted Dark Horse... not just not-exclusive, they are apparently sold in 10-packs now! Like cigarettes!!

The M1s had something of a similar path. At the start, Ford announced a limited allocation process, especially the HP cars. Some took that to mean limited production. Within short order, it was proven that was not the case. While there were at times limited parts and availability, things adjusted in later MYs to where it was as common as ordering any other spec.

Exclusive? Skye is not exclusive. Rare? If considering the color and spec, I'd consider another like car difficult to find. A lot of people from 21-23 picked FJG and later EG. You can trip over a FJG car every few feet. But other colors or color/option combos are not always easy to locate.

I'm only aware of a few cars I'd consider limited: GT350Rs, the early ones (60s) and later 2000s, some Boss variants (late 60s, early 70s), Cobra Rs, CFTP GT500s, the upcoming GTDs. There might be a few specs I'm forgetting. Otherwise, Ford wants to sell as many Mustangs as possible.

Long-term, any of the current specs will become more exclusive and harder to locate, if maintained well and kept original. I always encourage people to review Hemmings for older Mustangs. There is a sea of them. But when you want one in a certain color, with an original drivetrain, that hasn't been hacked up, modified or wrecked, the field narrows considerably. Even for an "ordinary" spec.

We're each going to have different perceptions on the topic. In the end, it's how a person feels about their car. I haven't tired of mine in the slightest. And while I enjoy seeing and being among any Mustang, I have the best times slowly rolling up along side a 1G car. I never consider the spec of the other. I doubt they think much of mine. We simply enjoying being out driving, then seeing another member of the family.

YMMV.

Although comforting to know, there are at least 10 others you will be able to get your ‘original’ parts from (if future needs arise), even matches the original factory color - you know they exist, you saw them. 😎

That’s one heck of a typo, seriously the order form said one I don’t know how it became a 10.

You make good points, but perhaps for clarification I should point out I have no intent of preserving el Rucio Moro as a collectible. Matter of fact, this is my daily driver and my daily joy.

Having said that, perhaps I should also admit vanity got the better of me thinking I scored a rare gem. I often read from folks here posting about looking and not finding these unicorns. Also, the blue ember DH is the most expensive in the "available to mere mortals herd," so even with no restrictions one would think it would not be commonplace as appliance-white Camrys or black Labradors.

As thrilling as these vehicles are, they are hardly practical or sensible. I'd prefer if Mr. Zig were correct and this rolling carton of smokes was a goof. Or maybe there's a Bullit movie remake in the works...

I don’t think anyone who buys a car buys it to be unique. I saw another blue ember just the other day, and we talked about cars for fun! If you wanted to be unique, you can always change wheels or add mods for fun, at the end of the day it’s just a car and as long as it makes you happy who cares if someone has the same color
