Recently replaced all 20 lug nuts on my 2024 Dark Horse. Also replaced all 20 on my 2016 GT. The DH had no issues but I had to use a 21.5mm socket and a hammer to work on the 2016 GT. Those nuts were swollen real bad!

It seems as though Ford still uses two piece lug nuts from the factory, which end up swelling at some point. Once they’re swollen, it’s a bit of a challenge to remove and replace them.

I replaced everything with one piece lug nuts on both cars. Now they’ll never be a problem.

I used Chrome Gorilla lug nuts for my 2024 Dark Horse.

I use Black Gorilla lug nuts fo my 2016 GT.

Don’t forget to check your nuts; it only takes a few minutes!

The metal casing mushrooms when they are tq'd on too hard. Then they expand and no longer fit the correct size. The metal core is still good, but they can sheer off the outside then good luck getting them off. The jeep wrangler has those that do the same if they are pounded back on with an impact gun.

Keep a future eye on the Gorrila lug nuts they tend to rust over time. Using hand tools rather than impact will help make them last longer. Please do not use anti seize and hand torque the nuts to spec. 150 foot pounds.

What was wrong with good old normal one piece nuts? They've served me well for several decades

Usually thanks to powertools on the nuts...

Yea. You should always be really careful about letting anyone else use power tools on your nuts (presumably; you'll be careful if you do it yourself).

From a former tire guy perspective, this topic could go way off nuts. 🤦‍♂️

Funny topic but so true. When I brought in my 2003 Mustang for tires at the local mom pop shop I have been using for many years, I had a box of 1 piece lug nuts and the owner gave me a 10% discount just for having them swap them in place of the 2 piece nightmares.
Chrysler uses them as well and have the same problems as Ford.

Brings back bad memories of PT Cruisers, swollen nuts and corroded wheels. Literally had to hammer the wheels off the hub.

I have a whole set of + .5mm sockets for tire work

Fords, and others in the Northeast or where there is salt tend to have the lug nuts swell due to corrosion between the chrome cap and the actual lug nut.

You would think....in 2026....the manufacturers would have perfected something as simple as a $#@! lug nut. But nooooo, they get to save a few cents and pass the problem on to us.

I've replaced the lugs on other cars with chrome solid body type. The only problem is these have a tendency to rust. But, you can't stay with the OEM caps especially if you use an impact wrench.
