Agreed. The whole point of the blackout panel on past Mustangs was to break up visual mass. They all had relatively flat surfacing around the trunk and large taillights to match. Made sense.

The S650 has shorter taillights and a hiked up diffuser so that mass is already shrunken and perked up. On top of that, the massive cut line breaks up the trunk lid itself. Still think this translates in person much more easily than photos when light, shadow, and reflection play around these angles.
Exactly. This is just a quick screenshot from Assetto Corsa, but it shows perfectly how the reflection and the edge already darkens the trunklid very nice. You don't need to paint it darker

I think the way it is is fine. And the black around the tail lamps got to me at first, but after seeing some older mustangs with chrome or black in a similar way, it makes a little more sense to me.

Perfectly illustrates that the S650 basically divided the same vertical body-colored mass into three horizontal sections versus the S550’s two.

Side note: I need to redownload AC like now lol

Agreed, I think some people could do with a Mustang styling refresher.

I always thought the '15-'17 S550 tail lights were a nice modern take on the '65-'66..........and the '18-'23 were a nice modern take on the '67-'68 more concave tail lights. But I think the S650 is an even more accurate/better take on the '67-'68 tail lights! :)

The S650 tail lights now stand out like the tail lights on the 2010-2012 Mustangs except you had white backup lights between the red lenses not the black spaces on S650.

Do you mean the later S197 (2010 & later) models with the cheap black overlay above the license plate?
No, I'm talking about the original S197 plus the major refresh at 2010. Both did the same thing that the S650 is trying to do, but without the stupid black surrounds for the red tribars.

Black deck lid looks old and ruins the nice modern aesthetic of the new car. Leave the past in the past.

I like the body color decklid panels in the S197s. What was old is new again.

But a Black wing looks even worse. It should be colored-coated

Real-life black deck, lid, albeit on an Australian Supercar:

And a couple of other general angles, just for interest sake.

The big black strip above the red reflector (right below the license plate) needs to be color coated instead of black. It reminds me of the black bumper moldings of 50 years ago.
Can someone put this into a visual? I can't quite see it in my head

Looks like someone left the trunk open.

I'm just happy Ford isn't using that "Piano Black" crap on the 650 like they did on the 550. That stuff scratches when you looks at it. I have a hell of a time with it on the wife's '18.
