How can I avoid the car going into battery saving mode? 1 amp trickle charger doesn't help. Car will sit for next 4 months.

Others chime in on this, but I've heard some people recommend pulling the battery out of the car and leaving that on the side on a battery tender if the car is gonna be sitting for months at a time. Others comment on that and confirm or deny if that's a good approach please.

A 1 amp maintainer may or may not keep from going into battery save mode. I never did a parasitic draw. I would think a 5 amp would be enough. Taking the battery out with 1 amp maintain will keep the battery topped off as any battery will loose charge just by sitting even though at a very slow rate.

Are you running a trickle charger or a battery maintainer? The older trickle chargers won't stop/start the charge process (it just shuts down when reached and won't restart unless you unplug/plug back in), but the latter does.

If you're pulling more than 0.5 to 0.7 amps @ rest, you've got something wrong. You can try to find the source of the parasitic draw by pulling fuses one by one and monitoring the multimeter readings (when used to measure amperage).

If you need a 5A battery maintainer to keep it the battery topped off, you've got some serious issues!

Ford expects the car to be driven every few weeks. The Battery Saving/Deep Sleep mode is set to a timer.

Edit & Clarification,

Battery Saving mode can also be triggered if the car is having difficulty maintaining a correct charge on the battery. One way to help determine if your entering what I define as Save Mode or Sleep Mode is time. If you're entering these modes (what I will call, "Save")after a weekend or a week, you might have a problem with your battery or charging system. If you notice the car is entering this mode consistently at about the two week point, it's "Sleep".

In the following, I make a distinction between a trickle charger and a battery tender. A charger is a blunt instrument, applying a constant force to the battery. A tender is a programmed device, with a routine to exercise a battery while at rest; it only charges when needed.

I use a Ford Performance battery tender while the car is in storage.

Other enjoy the "Battery Tender" brand. NOCO also well received.

I've hard-wired the hook-ups for the tender to the car's electrical system, so I hock-up whenever I'd like to use it. Some examples here:

https://www.mustang7g.com/forums/threads/trickle-charger-recommendation-for-winter-storage.157152/

Battery tender or not, a Ford vehicle will enter sleep mode at about the two week mark. The condition has no effect on the tender, its routine, the battery or the charging system. Tender attached, I've let my car sit for a few months without issue. No negative effects.

If you'd like to wake the car up, it's simple: unlock the car and open the Driver's door. The car will wake up, prime the fuel system and prepare to be started. I've also been able to wake the car just unlocking the door only. Once done, about two weeks later, it will again go to sleep.

While not driven, resting or in storage, I lock the car and stow the fob in a faraday pouch; this reduces parasitic draws while preventing fob-to-car interaction and enhancing security against relay attacks.

I haven't been studying the FORScan thread. If the mode continues to be a concern, IDK if you can turn Battery Save/Sleep Mode via FORScan.

I have seven vehicles so when I am not driving them I always plug in a maintainer. Fords since at least 2016, go into sleep mode after "X" (two weeks, I think) amount of time. even if you have a maintainer on it.

2024 Mustang GT premium,
I received my car in August of 2023. I put it in winter storage in Nov. i had it on a CTEX MX 5.0. It did just fine. I have put it in storage again using the same system, so fingers crossed it works again.
