So I was just looking.....

In 1992

BMW M3 MSRP was 57K (1998 M3 was 35K)
93 Cobra MSRP was 21K

Today an M2 starts at 63K and M4 at 79K
I wonder how many BMWs people buy at base price though?

Even once a couple years old seem to be like 60 K

I do agree the Mustang overpriced itself. It used to be a cheap-ish car.

Then where did those couple thousand of people go? Every new car I would buy is locked up. Used cars?

I think the reason those M cars are up in sales is because they are the best product to buy in that demographic of the car market. And BMW cannot meet demand. Every M3 allocation that comes up has a buyer. My parents are waiting on a M4 allocation.

Ford just might not have that compelling of a product with the new mustang. I even question myself if I want one.
AWD M4
The fastest tested BMW M4 is 2022 BMW M4 Competition xDrive Coupe, which was able to go from 0 to 60 mph in 2.8 seconds. It was able to reach the 1/4 mile in 11.0 seconds

I love the way the V8 sounds but damn turbo noises are cool too...and that is moving for a stock car.......

They might have bought a Supra or BMW, they might have bought a Corvette, or most likely they just kept the late model Mustang they already had (or bought a used one)

was curious and just checked- most M2s on the lot at the dealer by me are low 70s- high 80s for the M4

still the ratio of cost is way different today then in the 90s when an M car was over twice the cost of the Cobra- if that ratio stayed the same then if an M4 is 90K - a Dark Horse should be 45K

That was a $101,000 car that C&D tested...not really fair to compare to a $45k GT

true- but can I compare it to a fully loaded Dark Horse at over 90K?

I think the base GT at 45K is a steal- I think maybe Ford got a little too "Porsche" with the options might be part of the issue......

This is where a S650 GT500 would have been nice but they would have wanted $120k

If they could do a Predator powered GTD lite for 100K that would be good- maybe have the Dark Horse suspension - no huge spoiler on the back - no Magnesium wheels - that I think would sell....

#1 Overpriced. Further down the list things like bad styling choices, no mods, and those horrible screens are dragging it down. Targeting the new generation with many of these changes...new generation can't afford these cars. Steep discounts are available on the imposter mustang from what I see locally so that probably feeds into that one doing ok in conjunction with it being a grocery getter. Pricing is the biggest culprit here, but current mustang owners are not biting on the S650...too little real world performance changes to the S550 and the styling stuff is not resonating either.

The Raptor and Mustang are subsidizing the losses taken by the Ford EV program. The Mach E has outsold the ICE Mustang because Ford is selling the Mach E at a loss on every unit.

We may not have an EV, but who’s getting the last laugh; Us for having the cooler car or them for having us pay for part of their car purchase?

The average transaction price for new cars as of November 2024 was $48,397, basically a cool 50 grand!! To spend about 60K(give or take) for a well spec’d Mustang GT is actually a great deal relatively speaking. You get a fun, great looking, high horsepower car for slightly above the average cost of a “me too” boring new vehicle. Not horrible IMO, not cheap, but not crazy either. Just my 2 cents.

Even beyond the performance. You get a awesome looking car inside and out with BMW dealership experience. Its just the ultimate modern car if you ask me. Of you you pay a lot for that as well.

Have you seen Supra sales figures this past year? lol probably didn`t get to many people.

All new BMWs (supra included) are locked as well. I am not up to date on BMW tuning I remember hearing you can send out your ECU to a foreign country to have it unlocked and or tuned. Again that sounds like a pain and how many mustang owners would really do this? Tuning is a thing of the past if you ask me.
