Only if they actually filter well AND only if you clean them when needed.

I play in the world of SXS and have dry, reuseable filters on multiple machines. Regular checking and maintenance is key to them actually protecting your engine.

Proper maintenance is key for all filters. Because these filters do filter well they will need to be cleaned more often than other reusable ones. If you drive in extremely dirty air areas, you will have to clean far more frequently than someone who stays on the pavement. I have over 2k miles on the prototype filters and have not washed them yet.

I have rotated them since the front facing lower half gets dirty much faster than anywhere else due to the ram intake. Since these do not have the locating lugs, you can rotate them a few times before washing versus switching the filters to the opposite intake box.

While my intended goal for this product was to make a reusable filter that actually filters very well the flow data has been very surprising.

Consistent, measurable difference is shown in the dyno graphs. This is a very pleasant surprise, if for nothing more than marketing since it is very minimal. This will be more significant when you increase the air flow rate (such as with tuning or FI).

It is fluid dynamics. Less pressure loss through the media will result in an increase in power. These filters are less restrictive than the OEM paper filters. That is a fact.

That said, I do not think it is anything noticeable for a completely stock car. But it is really cool to see it measured.

For the general maintenance cost, they are worth it. Considering the throw away’s are $30 - $45 a piece X’s 2. Even if you only get 1 year out of them you are still close to breaking even.

Nice. Now Dusty Southwest environment, about how often would you recommend checking the filters?

I do not have a set interval. The media manufacturer said no more than 10k miles but I would check every 1k miles until you get a feel for it. I have not cleaned the prototypes in my car and they have almost 3k miles on them. I live in Colorado. These will need to be cleaned more often than the OE filters in dusty environments.

I got my filters and went to install them today. I couldn't get them to go over the intake opening though. What is the secret? The stock filter I could pull off and put back on easily.

Have you tried loosening the clamp? They are tightened slightly to keep them from moving around during shipping. I loosen them quite a bit before installing to make sure they aren't interfering.

The polyurethane is much stiffer than the OEM foam to make sure they last a long time. You can also use a silicone grease lightly on the flange surface. I also install them by holding the base and rock it slightly as I push. This way you do not risk crushing the media.

Yes, I made sure that the clamp was loose but the filter is just a touch smaller than the intake. I will try some silicone grease to see if I can get it to slip over. Rocking it didn't help, it wouldn't go over the intake.

I just went out and installed 2 in my car. I have been running prototypes previously.
They are tight but will go on. I spun them a little while rocking them by the polyurethane mounting end. Please do not try pushing them on by the end of the filter as this can crush them.
Make sure to get each rib over the end of the intake before going to the next one.
They will loosen over time so I wanted to keep the tolerances tight initially. I’m trying to show in the photos how I hold the filter while installing it but didn’t have a free set of hands to take the picture so imagine both hands on it. You can also put the clamp up on the intake and then slide it over the filter once seated (last photo) to eliminate any concerns with it being too tight.

Installed mine the other day. While they are tight, a little force while turning them slightly with the clamp off works. However, being that the tolerances are so tight I don’t see how there was any way of not disturbing the media to some degree.

It’ll depend on a few variables. If you live in a humid area it will take longer. You can put them in front of a fan to speed it up. In Colorado, they take around a day.

I usually have 2 filters I alternate between to be safe (can use the oem while these dry).
