We’re clamoring for a Camaro to force Ford’s hand to improve the Mustang

I don’t trust Ford in this current climate to make generational improvements to the platform without competition

We got some great improvements/variants when Camaro came back the first time. Besides it’ll force them to make better decisions instead of throwing whatever at the wall and hoping it sticks.

I wholeheartedly agree. Problem is GM gave up on the Camaro as a Pony car. A 2nd resurrection is not going to be what you think it is.
... think Mustang Mach-E

... Camaro E28?

Competition between Mustang and Camaro is always a good thing. But I dont think this version will have the desired effect.

A number of companies have soured on EVs for right now. Too expensive, not enough payback, especially in high energy cost areas like California where you might end up paying 79 cents per kWh to charge your car at home.

There is a general wave of US companies that have been saying they are planning on continuing development of ICE systems. I don't see GM spending a ton of money on developing a new V8 unless they see a good return on that investment, which would only occur if they had a nice 10-20 year production run.

True, we don’t know exactly what the new Camaro will be. But for now I hope it still comes in pony car format and gives Ford some motivation for innovation

Actually thought of another classic name that Buick could use for a personal luxury Grand Touring sedan....The Riviera
Buick officially retired the nameplate Riveria.

Was there even a pony car war against the 6th gen? I believe it was one sided...
GM blew it. The 6th gen had a better chassis and a better manual transmission than the Mustang, but the styling was bad and it was way less practical (poor visibility, trunk space, etc.). The V8 was rather boring compared to the Coyote, too.

The 1LE was/is a hell of a car. Also the GM V8s had way more torque down low. The LT1 HP was basically identical to the 3rd gen Coyote. In no way would I call them boring lol.

Lets also not forget that the 5th Gen Mustang got its ass thoroughly kicked by the 5th gen Camaro when it was reintroduced in 09. It wasnt until the 2nd gen coyote when the playing field was level again.

If I read magazine reviews correctly, it seemed most of the time Camaro won over the Mustang during comparison tests. The better performer, if not the better seller or daily driver, if you will. But maybe I'm mistaken?

Al Oppenheiser, who just recently retired, was the head of development. Dude was the Dave Pericak of Chevy and made sure in all the interviews that his intention was to go after the Mustang.

I remember when the Boss 302 returned, right after GM answered with the Z/28, then the GT350 followed that. What a time.

Hopefully the next one isn't prefaced by "Here's our answer to the Mustang...MACH-E!"

I agree the 1LE is a great car but no matter how well it performed there are reasons why the Camaro didn't sell well enough to be continued. The Camaro was a very capable sports car that looked like a muscle car. Better visibility and practicality would have made the lower trim levels more attractive to less hard core enthusists.
