Seems like everyone is going wide but stock height or shorter. The other trend is lowering the body.

I’m wondering if anyone has done the opposite and put taller tires on? Would fill the fender well, and also give a different kind of aggressive look. Some of the numbers I’ve see make it look like it would fit.

I’ve found zero examples of this though, anyone seen it or done it?

I don’t think the systems would like/allow it, but the s650 strikes me as one that would look cool with a significantly taller and wider tire in the back.

I know there are some performance tradeoffs.

Can anyone point me to an example where it’s been done? I’d like to see what it really looks like. In my head it looks good, in reality maybe not.

when you go taller, physically larger, more circumference, you are changing the effective gear ratio.

Less bottom end, higher top speed

Nobody here is doing land speed racing or The Texas Mile, of going up to Bangor to do their runway so why bother

Like I said, I know there are performance tradeoffs.

This was more of an aesthetic question.

Most Mustang owners are also not doing anything where an inch or two of tire is really going to impact them much on actual used performance.

Not the same generation (S197), but I did that on my 2013.

I went to a 275/35/20 front and a 295/35/20 rear. Was roughly 27.7" front and 28.2" rear when I measured the actual setup I had on the car. The car rode nicer, performed better, filled out some wheel gap (stock suspension) and had an awesome stance. From a purely aesthetic standpoint, bigger wheels just looked "better" to me on the S197 cars. I feel that way about S550+S650 as well.

It all depends on what you're going after, IMHO. Just be careful how extreme you want to go...you don't want to run into rubbing issues, obviously.

EDIT: For context, my car was a true DD and I lived in a city where the roads sucked (potholes, etc), so the extra rubber and overall diameter really made the car a hell of a lot better in everyday use.

Any chance you have pictures of this setup?

That’s kinda what led me down this road. I like the looks of the lowered setups, but they aren’t that practical for me and the roads I’m on. I also like the classic American muscle car look, and as I was looking at the s650 body shape more I was thinking that it might look cool with more rubber.

I like how he had very little change to the rear suspension, basically leaving it stock and just addressing an issue of flex in one area and the camber (getting zero camber, the opposite of what most of us want for performance, but perfect for the drag strip). I also noticed he replaced the resonator with a dual inlet outlet muffler, similar to your setup.
