EDIT: I am getting 20x10s.

Thought about posting in the 'other' thread about tire sizes but figured to start my own. First of all, I'm replacing my stock PP wheels/tires (19" X 9" (F) 19" X 9.5" (R), 255/40R19 (F) 275/40R19 (R)) with new 20x9 square wheels and Continental DWS 06 Plus ExtremeContact tires. I am not looking to get into a conversation about summer/winter vs all-season tires or staggered vs square setups.

The Ford stock option (non-PP) 20x9 wheel option runs 265/35R20 tires. I did some research on tiresize.com:

Here's the difference with stock PP 19" front vs stock PP 19.5" rear
S650 Mustang Tire width on 20x9 wheels (coming from 19" PP) ScreenHunter 119

Now let's compare stock PP 19" front with Ford option 20" wheels:
S650 Mustang Tire width on 20x9 wheels (coming from 19" PP) ScreenHunter 120

And stock PP 19.5" rear with Ford option 20" wheels:
S650 Mustang Tire width on 20x9 wheels (coming from 19" PP) ScreenHunter 121

Onto my question. I was thinking 265/35/20 on my new wheels (to mimic the stock option). However, the 275/35/20 option is $300 cheaper (weird, right?) plus I think it looks better. The manufacturer claims that a 275 on 20x9 wheel should be okay. Here are some measurements vs the 19" PP stock:

Front PP vs new 20"
S650 Mustang Tire width on 20x9 wheels (coming from 19" PP) ScreenHunter 122

Rear PP vs new 20"
S650 Mustang Tire width on 20x9 wheels (coming from 19" PP) ScreenHunter 123

Summary:
265/35 vs PP
Front: +1.1% (+0.3")
Rear: -1.4% (-0.4")

275/35 vs PP
Front: +2.2% (+0.6")
Rear: -0.4% (-0.1")

To me, both 265/275 options vs stock PP should be fine. Thoughts?

Also, any other generic opinions for fitting 275 on 20x9 wheels?

I personally wouldn't want to lose any grip in the rear. Wider upfront is also going to effect your steering feel. I dont see the upside here.

Did you order the car yet?

When you say 'wider upfront': do you mean 265 vs 275?

Yes, ordered it last week (as well as the new wheels. Didn't order the tires yet)

ive got a dark horse non hp. 255/275 on (i think) 19 x 9.5/10 wheels. i would love to go a little wider on tire but that setup feels great. planted. i beat the snot out of it given the opportunity. so in my case, wheel vs tire size matters. i would worry with that with tire width, you lose some of your perf pack handling to tire roll in corners... if that matters. so for me and it seems a lot of owners here, wider wheel is better

100%. Losing width in the rear will compromise the handling.

the width will actually be the same (275) in the rear with my 20”. The front will be larger though. However, the DH comes with option 305 fronts so I am not sure how “bad” 275 is.
Maybe I am missing something.

Ok. It's hard to keep track of all the comparison calculators you posted. You definitely dont do simple. Lol

The thing your missing is the stagger, which means steering feel and grip. But honestly you're already putting 20" all seasons on a performance pack car. I truly dont think you grasp how much you are already neutering the handling as it is.

My basic question is fitting 275 vs 265 on square 20x9 wheels.

I understand the performance part, but at this point I need to keep things simple. I might hold on to the PP wheels in case something changes in the future, but that’s long-term. I won’t be racing this car anytime soon.

Brother, from what I've seen here, you dont do anything simple. You're the very definition of over thinking.

Your buying a Mustang GT with the performance pack, not a Cadillac. You dont need to do any racing to enjoy the handling the car was engineered for and YOU paid for. But thats just my 2 cents. It's your car, enjoy what ever tires you go with. I dont think you really want input, so much as validation for your choices. I look forward to your text thread. 👍🏻

Although i requested to not comment on the choice of tires or wheels, I guess that fell onto deaf ears. We already had this conversation, including if the PP makes sense for me.

I'm just enthusiastic and would like some input before making decisions. In my mind that's called 'getting a variety of opinions'. I guess according to you that's the 'definition of over thinking'? Maybe. I guess if you say so.

Anyway, I've always valued your input and it seems that me being an active forum member isn't overly appreciated which is a bit disappointing (I get the sarcasm). I thought we were all enthusiasts here.

Looking forward to more opinions about my original request if a 275 would fit fine on a 20x9 wheel.

Let's take a step back and reassess.

I realize you are new to the forum and enthusiastic, and that's great. We've all been there. But lets not be silly and say you being an active member isn't appreciated because I disagree with you. Lol

You start a lot of new threads and ask lots questions and go back and forth quite a bit. Again, that's great. In hind sight, one or two dedicated threads would have been better, but whatever. But where you lose me is when you ask for input, and when that input is given, its immediately dismissed in favor of the decision you have apparently already made. So to me, it's does come across like you are seeking validation rather than "input" when you ask some of these questions. That's just how I read it.

As for your original question, I think you already know the answer. I gave you my "input" and you didn't like it. At the end of the day its your car, and you can do whatever you want. I hope when it arrives, its everything you wanted and more. Good luck. 👍🏻

Got it. There is an unwritten rule about number of threads to open, even if the question is in fact a new one.

And no, I take everyone’s input seriously and respectfully. Sometimes reading the variety of opinions helps me clear my mind and make a firm decision. Does that mean someone like you thinks is the right one? Does it matter, really?

Maybe next time skip the sarcasm. If you want to call me out, do so. No issues. But no need for sarcasm.

Having said all of that, no hard feelings here. I always enjoy reading your comments. Cheers.

I prefer a 265 tire on a 9.5" wheel and a 275 tire on a 10" wheel... my $.02...
