Hello everyone,

I am new to this site, however, I want to let you know of a recent experience. I took delivery in 08/25 of a factory ordered GT. In mid-October I noticed smoke emanating from the hood. I took the vehicle in for service and they needed to replace the crankshaft main seal. After a test drive the service department called and said the oil pan gasket was also leaking. The car has been in the shop since October 29th and now an oil pan gasket is on order. This is unacceptable for a new vehicle (less than 3k miles) and FOMOCO wonders why S650 sales are stagnant. Be aware if you are considering an S650.

I can't say that I have ever heard of bad gaskets/seals being an issue, but there is always that one that gets out the door and unfortunately it seems to have ended up in your car.

It has not shown up as a design defect, or an assemble defect (BCM recall anyone?)

Modern QA finds a lot of issues before they go out the door, but unfortunately statistically something will get past QA and out the door.

A crank rear main and an oil pan gasket are pretty much apples and oranges, unless it is at the mating surfaces. The chances of a gasket and seal going bad at the same time are about the same as you hitting the lottery unless as I said above it was an assembly issue. If it was the rear main seal the retainer plate the seal sits in it comes off without having to wrestle with the pan.

I'd be asking the service dept if they have verified the PCV system is working properly

Well, I'd rather win the lottery. Honestly, this is beyond absurd and the fact I received a 3-month follow-up Ford on the day I brought my car in for service was just perfect. I think everyone knows the feedback I submitted.

Well, that should not be the case for this repair. I was told it should be finished Tuesday.

That sounds like a human f**k up. Probably damaged both during installation.

@Lou G Agreed, makes it hard swallow considering the amount paid. I am going to contact FOMOCO and demand they extended their 36 month warranty for another 12 months. I doubt they'll be amenable but they should be if they care about their customers.

I can understand you are frustrated...but don't let the experience sour you on the car as a whole........It sucks you have those issues, but there is no mass produced car that I know of that makes every single car perfectly. Shit happens on the assembly line and we roll the dice when we get our car and hope for the best. Of course there might be common issues to look out for on a certain model, but people often join a message board mainly to post about a problem they have, which is fine, and helpful to know!

.....but it does skew the perception of the car. Many thousands buy the car and never have a problem and never join a message board.

I heard of so many horror stories about the S197 Mustang yet I drove mine for 17 years completely trouble free.

That said, I hope you get your issue sorted out and continue enjoying your car!

The only thing that really sucks is the shortage of replacement parts and having to wait sometimes.

@Starship Enterprise I agree with your overall sentiment, however, I have owned (3) Ford vehicles previously and never experienced these issues within three months of purchase. If anything, it does reinforce all the issues Ford has had over the last several years. To be honest, the parts issues IMO opinion have more to with creating demand for niche vehicles and making manufacturers build them.

You may get more success by asking nicely!

You are asking for a goodwill gesture, you are not in a position to demand anything - just a thought.

Adding to this, do not overlook tech incompetence, It is also as likely the oil pan was and is the leak and the tech went for the rear main seal first. With the rear main seal buried between the engine and trans the tech "rolled the dice" and went for the rear main.

Either way it is a warranty issue and would have been great if it never became an issue.

A individual who doesn't own a Ford vehicle is in no position to ask Ford to extend their warranty. I am in that position therefore I will DEMAND that they extend it. Sure, we are talking semantics here, but there reply will provide my stance moving forward on any FOMOCO product. It's called gratis and companies who want to maintain a good relationship with their consumers will act accordingly.

Best of luck to you. My diff was bad from the factory and has been “in transit” but never arrived for 3 months. I keep asking how something can be in transit for 3 months and what the ETA is and the dealer can’t tell me.

Also the computer has had to be reprogrammed twice and is currently in the shop getting reprogrammed again because every sensor will randomly fail in the middle of driving.

Love the car but damn it’s got issues from the factory.
