Did you check the level before driving from the dealer? I checked mine after driving aprox 5 miles. It was a quart low. I added 1/2 quart and it brought it up to the middle reading on the stick.
Using that much would produce plenty of blue smoke.

Any new vehicle, it's a good idea to perform checks on a regular basis. Leaks, loose items, smells, tire wear and oil level. While the majority of vehicles remain fine, some don't. Over time, confidence builds that things are OK (or not).

When I initially took receipt of Skye, I checked fluids, tires and performed under chassis checks after every drive. Several weeks later, I went to a regular routine of checking those things once a month. Tires, I continue to check more frequently, to ensure that pressures are optimum before any spirited driving.

However you're checking the car, do so on a consistent basis, in a consistent manner.

"Gentle driving." Can you define that?

IMO, it's best to lay into these engines well, especially when new. Certain engine internals need to seat and be worn in. I'm attaching a link, describing the process I followed.

The following thread will explain cylinder wall glazing, why it's a good idea to load any engine:

Specific to your concerns, you can start by brining the oil level back up, then checking and documenting more frequently. Maybe it's been that low since receiving. Maybe after the last oil change. Maybe there is an issue, with consumption or leaks.

You should build confidence with more frequent checks. If you find the losses continue, check in with a Service Advisor. Ford has a specific process to measure and document consumption before warranty work is considered.

When you have time, let us know how things worked out.

@Skye I followed very close to your recommended proceedure on all my past engine break ends. The 2011 first gen Coyote did have many complaints of early oil usage but I never experienced it with mine as using proper break end.

My new 24 DH used 1 quart after 300 miles of gentle driving. Is this normal.
U can talk to the dealer and see if they willing to do an oil consumption test. Do an oil change drive it for 5000miles and see if the car burns more oil than it needs to.

I also got caught by Fords strange dipstick configuration. Never seen min, nominal and max before. So when the dealer filled to nominal I thought it had used a litre of oil in 600km.
It hasn't used any since that top up.

The amount of oil I need to have total is around 11.5-12qt to get to that nominal area, I have the oil cooler so it takes more than 10qt.

Those heads hold a lot of oil. It's best to check it after it has set for a while. The best time to check it would be in the morning before you start the car. Even my 96 4.6L needed to set about half an hour before I check the oil. Often I would have the low oil light come on when the oil was down a bit and I restarted it after I parked a bit. The low oil sensor normally reads the engine when you first start it then waits until you have parked a while before rechecking it to avoid this problem. That might explain why your not seeing a low oil indication.

How many miles you got on that thing? If less than few thousand do a couple hard runs 0-160 . If it does not stop the oil burn take it to ford for compression/leak down test. You should be able to push for a new engine after.

Mine was a 1/2 quart low when I checked it after 10 miles. Added oil and it hasn't used any since.
40,000+ mustangs at a .5-1 quart each saves Ford a lot of money

Does it matter what oil you are adding into the factory oil that's already inside?
Any 5W30 that's in the manual can mix with the factory oil?
