Drive it and enjoy. This isn't 1960. :)

Just use common sense.

Break in is not a thing.
it was a thing in 2023

Your vehicle requires a break-in period. For the first 1,000 mi (1,600 km), avoid driving at high speeds, heavy braking, aggressive shifting or using your vehicle to tow. During this time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual driving characteristics.

2024 says your tires need 300 miles to break in.

I would still following the 2023 guidance.

Considering the amount of metal I've seen in my rear diff after only driving a few k miles, I don't even want to know what my oil filter looks like after that same time.

Break-in isn't AS needed as the 60s, but it's still a good practice.

"Break in" really isn't needed. That used to be along the lines of "constantly change your RPM, your driving speed, yada yada." What's needed is to use common sense -- don't beat the crap out of it and run it to redline 4x an hour during the first ~1K miles and you'll be just fine.

We have bought or leased 16 brand new vehicles in the past ~18 years alone. Never a single issue related to "not breaking it in".

So what happens when someone red lines a car on a test drive? The warranty is now void?

I have never followed a break in and never had a problem.

I did NOT break mine in.

I was told by many Ford mechanics that the engines are already broken-in at the factory. When they build your V8 Coyote engine, they stress-test it and they run it at high RPMs at the factory for several minutes. (This is concerning the engine and not other vehicle parts)

I agree that 60s and 70s break-in procedures are no longer required. Neither should it be babied. IMO "lugging" it causes as much harm. I do vary the engine rpms and speeds at which I brake to a stop from for the first 800-1000 miles. I would not be bouncing off the rev limiter for at least 500 miles. As for oil changes, it depends. If the car is driven with "gusto", do the first oil change by 1000 miles. If its just driven with some "spirit" then 2000 miles would be fine. I change the my engine's oil at 2000 miles (first change) and did this for my 2024 GT. After the first oil change it depends on how and where I have driven it but even with full synthetic less than 5000 miles is always my target. I always run full synthetic and always make sure the tech pre-fills the oil filter (he gets a tip so he's always happy to humor me). I am fine with Motorcraft Oil (Conoco Phillips base with additive package from S-Oil) the Motorcraft filter is manufactured (I have been told) by Wix, so no worries there. We only get to break it in once, so we may as well do it right and our oil and filter is the cheapest insurance we will ever be able to purchase.

Yeah I am thinking breaking in is a myth, I been taking it easy for the first 800 miles and my car has blue smoke at start up. Probably leaking through the valve seals so even taking it easy will not guarantee no motor issues.

It’s in my 2024 manual for the first 1000 miles.
