Hello! I'm currently looking at some automatic and manual cars. Considered the auto and stick Bronco, and this, with either one. What I'm unsure about with both of for one, the auto. What's performance like? I kinda feel like 7 + 3 OD gears would be excessive for a car like this. Also unsure about reliability for auto. For the manual, I do feel like I want the manual, but want to get opinions here first. Not much manuals anywhere near I am at the moment. How much play is in the shifter? Does the engine vibrate the shifter much? Does the engine torque twist shake the shifter? How does the clutch feel? If I were to get the mustang, I'd look at the GT stick.

I’ll start off by saying that a manual isn’t for everyone but since you are even considering a manual…get it. I ordered my ‘24 GT, auto, non PP in March. I drove it Sept-Apr and put nearly 10k miles on it. I just traded into a GT manual with PP in May. Let’s just say that the auto was fun to drive and the manual is a blast to drive! The clutch and shifter are great -zero issues. It really is a completely different driving experience and as long as I stay in a mustang it will have a manual transmission. Good luck with your decision!

Just go drive them. The auto is fine, Ford puts it in a few million vehicles a year. There is no excessive harshness related to the manual.

But if you aren't sure if you want a Bronco or a Mustang, get that sorted out first.

I've had a bunch of great muscle cars over the years. Much bigger HP and faster than my Manual Dark Horse. But non have been as fun to drive than my Manual DH. The Tremec is a beauty of a transmission, and makes you one with the car. People without a manual, don't know what they are missing. Feel it, hear it, live it!!

Manual choice of two: tremec or getrag

gt gets the getrag, dh gets the tremec. Different transmission gearing however same rear gear.

getrag shifter play hasn’t been loosie goosie however that may be relative to the subjective (opinion of the observer)

shifter vibration while in neutral and at idle is minimal (getrag) to imperceptible

torque twist shifter has not been experienced

clutch feels like any other clutch, just gotta get the feel for when she bites and how much. Not gonna say floor touchy more after midway but perfectly usable.

I vote for Manual in Sporty Cars unless your goal is 1/4 mile times....then the auto is quicker almost every time!! :like: :like:

Side Note: Most of today's CAR THIEVES have no clue how to drive a manual vehicle!!:cwl::cwl:

When I decided to get a 24 I was thinking of getting an auto. My previous 6 Mustangs (4 GT, 2 GT500) were all manual. I test drove a Dark Horse Auto and found it boring. Granted it was not a long drive. Right after I test drove a GT manual and knew right away that is what I was going to get. I was not looking to get a Dark Horse. If I was it would defiantly been the Manual. The sales guy offered the DH test drive, so why not.

Unless you have only one leg or go drag-racing...Get the manual ! Between chinese Getrag or mexican Tremec only You can decide if its worth the additional $$$ for a DH to you...The Getrag had not a good reputation in the S550 to say at least but it might be fixed in the S650 , too early to say.The Tremec is a sturdier unit but needs a liitle time to break in to become smooth while the shift from first to second never gets 100% smooth in Tremecs for whatever reason...Its worst in GM cars but Tremecs feel more industrian like transmissions with heavier mechanical feel for sure.Try them and you instantly know what I try to say...LOL

I’ve got an auto GT, should be test driving a manual GT soon, and depending on how much I enjoy it most likely will be selling or trading in my auto GT for a manual PP. There isn’t anything wrong with the auto GT, I’ve enjoyed it but I do feel like I’d enjoy the manual a whole lot more since I don’t care much about being the fastest or what not. I’m okay with the stock power and if I add to it most likely just headers and a tune when it becomes available. Plus driving manual in newer vehicles is a whole lot easier from the looks of it when you have auto rev match, etc.

Personal choice, I have had the stick and enjoyed the hell out it, but being a senior in the city the auto is the route i have gone on the 18 GT and now have a 24 GT. Auto is faster, but as others have stated the stick is a blast. Don't worry about the 10 speed auto it is a proven work horse. Ford and GM jointly commission a company to build this 10 speed auto transmission. It is in allot of Ford and General Mortors vehicles and I have not heard of any problems. Good luck.

There is nothing wrong with automatics as they shift faster and take off faster because of more gears, torque convertor and faster shifting ! But they are boring and you are not in control or in touch with your car...Nothing beats going to the rpm band like you want it making V8 music...No automatic can give you that feeling , paddle shifted or not ! And with rev match things are super easy down shifting while braking...Real car guys choose the manual...LOL

20+ years since I've owned a "go fast" car. Wasn't even a debate, manual. It's hilarious when neighbors, people on the street, family, etc... approach and ask about auto/manual. It's like they've never seen one, 😂. I don't want to be the fastest, I just want to enjoy it, and I am loving every minute of it.
