Hey, guys, new member here. Interesting topic. I have the option of 91 non-ethanol or 94 with 10% ethanol. Any thoughts?

2020 F150 4x4 Limited. 2024 GT Mustang Premium. Both in Rapid Red.
So the owners manual says 87 octsne min, but use 91 for hot weather or towing. Would guess this is for detonation protection and not upgrading performance. All Ford Racing tunes i have used call out 91 octane min. I understand Coyote has a robust engine management system, but it sounds like tune is set for lower octane and has more left on the table if the tune was adjusted for higher octane rating. Ford Racing said no info on tune for GT or DH. Also, I know cam timing and trans tuning, based on previous Ford Racing tunes, would benefit from a new tune as well.
So long story shory, what octane are you running on your DH? 93. octane seems like a waste.
I always use 91 Octane.
I use it in our 2020 F-150 Limited with the 450 Horse H. O. Twin Turbos, Raptor Engine.
The 2019 & 2020 Limited had the Raptor Engine. They have Factory Dual Exhaust.
Our 2024 Mustang GT, 401-A, Active Exhaust.
our 2024 Honda Lawn Mower.
I would use 93 but no such option in Colorado.
They claim the altitude has something to do with it. Don’t really know, don’t believe them.
I know when you get up in Altitude in the Colorado Mountains your gas mileage will be better by a few miles per gallon
I always purchase Gas in Bailey Co. when I’m up there
I asked the Ladies when I get three or more miles per gallon that I do with the gas in Denver area. She said we don’t use a summer blend. Denver uses a summer blend that kills your mileage..
All Gasoline is not the same from the Same Gasoline distributor.
91-93 gives you more performance than 87.
If it doesn’t, it’s not your Mustang. It’s your ⛽ Gasoline supplier, distributor etc
It’s a Crap Shoot?.

I run 87 just for commuting to work and running around town because filling up once a week was getting a bit much and I find the winter blend high octane fuels usually run weird from sitting in the tank for so long. (Not a lot of people running vehicles that require 91+ in the dead of winter in northern Canada) Might consider running 91 in the summer when the fuel quality increases and see if I notice any more power/smoother engine from there.

For reference I use Co-Op cardlock 87 and it has about a 3-4mpg advantage over Petro Canada winter blend 91, and not only that the engine seems to run smoother and have more power on the 87. I'd rather have low octane fuel from a clean tank that gets a high usage so the fuel has less chance of being stale/contaminated, than a stale high octane that has since lost a lot of its octane and is full of water from sitting for so long.

Not to mention in Canada ALL gas (minus Chevron 94) is legally mandated to contain minimum 10% ethanol and have the same detergents and additives. So literally all you are paying extra for is the octane which more often than not is lost during winter months from low turnover. If I am going to be putting garbage in my tank it might as well not be expensive garbage. Gonna wait until I can run a tune at least before I commit to the quality Chevron 94.

I always run premium and I always use the same station to fill up. That's at 93 for me and that is what the engine was built for.

Do you folks put in any fuel stabilizer with winterization of your vehicle?

93 octane only (mostly shell gas), I thought about trying e30 but I'm not sure if it's worth it on a mostly stock car.

Always 93. I dont trust the announced octane.
Had a bad experience with an AMG (25 lbs boost)and started missfiring after filling the tank with 93. Ended up being contaminated gas with lower octane and risked blowing a 40k engine.
You never know what happens inside those underground tanks...no way of knowing.
Car can run on 87 but 93 gives me peace of mind.
