So the owners manual says 87 octsne min, but use 91 for hot weather or towing. Would guess this is for detonation protection and not upgrading performance. All Ford Racing tunes i have used call out 91 octane min. I understand Coyote has a robust engine management system, but it sounds like tune is set for lower octane and has more left on the table if the tune was adjusted for higher octane rating. Ford Racing said no info on tune for GT or DH. Also, I know cam timing and trans tuning, based on previous Ford Racing tunes, would benefit from a new tune as well.
So long story shory, what octane are you running on your DH? 93. octane seems like a waste.

Personally, i've been running 87 if i'm taking a long trip down the interstate and then 93 once i'm back in town and driving around, as i'm more inclined to get on it.

These are 12:1 compression ratio engines. Run premium.

If you use the search field, upper-right, you'll see multiple, extended threads on the topic. Like oil brands and viscosity, opinion varies. The Owners Manual establishes the minimum requirements.

I want maximum performance with the best detonation prevention possible.

I use the highest octane available, always. I prefer Shell Nitro. Given the area I live in, 91 is the highest.

I use the same with all my vehicles (performance, towing stresses, elevation changes, etc.).

Regardless of the octane being used, always select a Top Tier fuel provider.

YMMV.

I've run 93 O exclusively (mostly Meijer brand---they are TT rated) in my GT for the excellent reason cited by @LETHAL.

93, is all I have ever ran. I'm fine paying the premium since I ran a 93 tune in my 2012 for 12 years.

Only 93 so far although I have no rational explanation for why. Since I only fill up once a month I guess it's not a big deal to pay the extra cost for 93.

Didn't a couple companies do dyno videos of 91 vs 87 or was that only VMP with the Whipple installed?

@LETHAL is 100% correct. In the day we used to build engines. For the little difference in price the difference to a 12:1 engine is IMMENSE. Honestly, don't want to sound like a grumpy old fart but someone buys a DH then wants to save a few pennies using $hit gas. A lot of refiners are a bit sketchy with their mixes these days so 87 might not be the 87 you think. Don't mess around with cheap gas or lower octanes for these beautiful works of art engines! Of course manufacturers will say no worries bud you can use 87. Geez Louise!

Your rated hp is with 93 octane. Yes the car will run with 87 but not at rated hp

VMP ran a 2024 directly from the dealer, they suspected it had 87 octane in it, and then added the suggested amount of Boostane to bring it up to 93, and this was the difference. Sure, it would have been nice for them to run as much 87 out as they could and go fill up on known good 93 but it's similar to gains seen in earlier Coyote engines on 87 vs premium (19hp difference)

Interesting topic. Here in Arizona we have shit gas 91 octane. I ran 91 octane in all my performance cars and there is a place near me that has 100 octane at the pump. So whenever I am over that way I will throw 3-4 gallons on a full tank and have never had any issues. I think like someone said the 500 hp is based on 93 octane so my method gets me close which has always been fine in any of my cars.

A cheap octane boost is just add 3 gallons of E85, the car will run like a scalded dog.
