While oil pressure might be noticeably different between two grades, temperature is going to only change by a couple degrees, at least according to tests done by various famous youtube channels
Ok, I watched the video.

I went back and re-read this post.

I just realized that we are not communicating well with each other.

What I wrote is about inferred oil temperature. You are writing about actual oil temperature.

The Mustang S650 oil temperature on the dash is an inferred value. The ECU calculates it based on various other inputs (and no, I do not know what those are). There is no oil temperature sensor.

I have not experimented with heavier weight oil, but you might remember Misha Charoudin did in his Dark Horse. He put in heavier weight oil and declared the problem with his oil overheating was cured. As others pointed out, the inferred temperature was indicating lower, but this is not a reflection of the actual oil temperature, which is probably hotter than what is shown on the dash when running 5W-50.

Palm Beach Dyno says it has to do with the oil pressure mostly, but I do not know enough to know whether this is the case. It does make sense. It also fits into what you wrote above and the oil pressures shown in the video you shared.

I hope I have communicated more clearly this time.

it's a whole host of things including cylinder head temp, coolant temp, current and recent RPM and gears, throttle input, and so much more. the result is a fairly accurate reading from what i've heard, as long as you're running 5W30

What if you’re running 5w-50 per whipple’s directions?

Does the car read such a thing? If so, why do they not give us that instead of CHT?

i cannot say for certain, but i think Whipple and Ford updated the algorithm for the tune with the new oil weight in mind. but it's also possible that they didn't bother either because they forgot, didn't care, or found it still within acceptable range. i would send an inquiry to Whipple and ask about it

we could just look at tune vs stock
but my whipple tune is still not supported by hpt tuners :(
hpt told me to update my tune from whipple and they sent me 2026 tune have to see if that one is supported

I agree I would really worry about any tunes in our car cause I don’t want to mess up the Ford racing Wibble tune I know everybody says it’s all safe and all that that’s why I got it. I’m just trying to find out a way to keep the oil temperature a little cooler but then again maybe the tune is set up with that in mind maybe Ford figures if we find a way to keep it engine cooler, we might do too many hits and break it that much faster we wouldn’t do that. 🤣🤣😇

I can tell you the whipple tune inferred oil temps are the same from a whipple tuned non PP car and stock non PP car. So they didnt touch that stuff. I would assume you can add the ford racing oil cooler kit and just have the tune updated with the PP/DH values. Something a tuner would have to do, not whipple obv unless they are willing to send you a file with it done. (doubt)

Ive done that now a few times for guys I tuned that added the oil coolers to their non PP cars. Worked out well.

welcome to the world of Ford Motor Company products. their choices seldom make sense and it's infuriating. for example, why can i only option the $995 black roof or $3000 teal accent package on the Dark Horse SC as long as i have the $36500 track package? i don't think even Ford knows, and that's just a taste of something that's well beyond a quirk and more into annoyance even for the people who work at the dealers

Well, technically your head temps are regulated by coolant. And id argue that actual head temperature is more important. Also, there is a coolant gauge on the dash. It just doesnt have numbers attached. 🤷🏻
