I researched the "upgrade" from my s550 convertible. Edmund's, Road and track, etc. as well as numerous you tube videos. They were were all sales tools. At no point did they point out the technology I would be giving up. I expected that after 6 years technology moved forward an boy was I wrong. First of all the s650 security system is a joke. The s550 security was sensitive and worked well. In a convertible that is a VERY big deal. Next the navigation went from forever to subscription. Why does that matter with Android Auto? That is because the S550 used the GPS to report the speed limit and it was very accurate. In the S650 the speed limit indicator is sign reading and it frequently is very inaccurate for instance in a 55MPH highway it reads 20MPH. I am becoming discouraged. In the 1980's every car redesign was a step backward and that is happening now. I wanted to give my granddaughter my 1019 Fusion as she goes off to college. I can't find a single 4 door sedan including Toyota Camry that has the features I am used to with out a subscription. My plan has changed I will keep my car and buy her a late model used car. I will NEVER buy a new car again until the next again is an improvement over the last gen.

Yep, just take good care of your S550, because we’re going semi networked vehicles soon, and fully networked/autonomous shortly after.

you’ll likely be able to enjoy it for a few decades until “self driving” becomes regulated to private tracks, rural areas.

GPS with Android Auto works fine on the S650. It's through your phone not your car.

Only issue I have with sign reading is when driving on expressways with speed limits of typically 60-70 mph it sometimes reads the signs on the service roads, which are 45 mph.

I have one of each... the S650 is better in every way... except maybe color choices.
I tested alarm system on my S650 fastback... left the window down 4 - 5 inches, stuck my hand in and set it off. Jacking up the car sets it off too.
There is no shock sensor... though they do sell an accessory add on glassbreak/shock sensor.

Do you have the full security system? Standard on '24 and '25 premium 201A/401A packages, but is an extra charge option for '26. It is called Anti-theft package.
Is the motion sensor being turned off when you get out? Mine defaults to this and I have to turn it on when getting out.
Are you locking with the fob? That is the only way it is active.
Was there a shock sensor on your S550?

To each their own, and from everything that I've read, the S650 drives better and the interior has better quality materials, but from a layout perspective, I think the interior of the S550 was peak Mustang.

Mine has the digital dash:

And a reasonably-sized infotainment touch-screen, but... with full physical button controls:

Oh boy, here we go...deep breath.

First -What trim level do you have? Why is the new security system a joke? Can you give specific examples?

Second - if your speed limit indicator is reading 20 instead of 55, then you need to take it to the dealer. That means the forward camera is either broken or not calibrated and is not normal. Also if you want GPS speed limit, just use Waze the same as the S550. It works exactly the same.

Lastly - these two minor complaints hardly seem like an indictment worthy of such a post against the S650. You probably skipped over at least a dozen improvements the S650 makes over the S550. But if these two things are all it takes to turn you against the car, then just trade it for a Honda and spare us the grief. The Mustang was probably never for you to begin with. âť„

I think the security system motion sensor is sensitive enough, i left my windows down about 2 inches. Later in the day my alarm went off. When i walked out of my house i didn't see anyone around. I unlocked the door and looked inside to see if anything was missing. Didn't see anything but a bee flying around in the interior. Lol

I have had both cars, the S550 (2019) and the S650 (2024). Both are convertibles. Both with magneride and active exhaust and both with performance packs.

The S650 is better in every way except cost. I have no subscription services. I do use Apple car play for both nav and music. The S650 infotainment is years ahead of the S550. As far as performance I think they are both equal.

Hey for the extra money i got hood struts on the S650 :)

I have an appoint this Tuesday morning with the Dealer tech person. I am convinced the problem is with a defective security system. I have a 24 GT convertible with 401A and active exhaust. The owners manual and the car settings screen both say that perimeter alarm is automatic when you lock the door. I have locked the car and moved the keys away and given it overnight to arm itself. There is nothing I can do either pulling on the door handle or reaching in from a partially lowered window that sets it off. I also noticed ford.com under accessories for this car they sell a plug and play enhanced security upgrade for about $250. No additional subscription necessary. For me a working security system for a convertible is a must have.

To be clear... You must lock the car with the fob... locking it with door handle does not arm the alarm...

From the manual...

ARMING THE ANTI-THEFT ALARM SYSTEM The alarm is ready to arm when you switch your vehicle off. Lock your vehicle with your remote control to arm the alarm.

I'll take physical buttons over touchscreens any time. Yes, the touchscreen in the S550 is smaller, but that's because you have physical buttons you can use without looking, or having to go through a bunch of menus and making sure you touch at just the right spot. I also prefer having the digital instrument cluster built into the dash and not a big tablet sticking up.
